Franklin Gutierrez, above, is the team's new No. 5 hitter, moving up in the order tonight after walloping those two home runs yesterday.
We just got word on Erik Bedard. The MRI taken yesterday in San Diego found -- absolutely nothing. His shoulder is fine. When asked about what could have been bothering Bedard all this time, manager Don Wakamatsu said maybe "a touch of bursitis.''
So, that part is good news. Now, here's the part I'm a little leery about, just based on last year. Bedard will resume his regular workout routine in three days, once the dye injected in his shoulder for the procedure starts to dissipate.
And then, if all goes well, the plan is to activate him once the team plays in New York against the Yankees 11 days from now.
Now, I have no reason to doubt this will happen, except...well, we kept getting told the same stuff a year ago and Bedard's launch date kept getting put off again and again. So, the best I'd say is, Mariners' ...
