IN the 2012 MLB Draft today the Seattle Mariners held the #3 overall pick. They chose Mike Zunino the hot catching prospect from Florida. Jesus Montero is going to have to find a new role on the Mariners ballclub. Or else they've got a life-long DH.Mike Zunino 6'01" 220lbs DOB: 03/25/91 He's a leader with power. We wrote this about him earlier this week. The consensus first round pick for the Mariners, Mike Zunino is considered the best college bat of the draft. Standing at 6’2″ and 185 pounds out of the University of Florida, Zunino has able bodied catcher written all over him. A plus defender, Zunino shows great instincts behind the dish. He already shows maturity in framing pitches and calling games. Could stand to improve his blocking skills.Per MLB.com Zunino is no stranger to the Draft, taken out of the Florida high school ranks three years ago. His father, Greg, was a 1981 draft pick who played for two seasons in the Yankees system and has been a scout for the past quarter-century.
