Join us here periodically as we roam the hallways of the Hilton Anatole hotel to bring you live footage of the goings on at the baseball winter meetings. Just as I told you about an hour ago via Twitter, the Mariners will meet early this afternoon with Jim Lindell, the agent for pitcher Jeff Francis, who pitched last season with the Kansas City Royals. Lindell lives in the Seattle area, so he knows all about the Mariners and their needs. The two sides have had prior discussions on the pitcher by phone. Don't expect any deals to get done here at the meetings. My sources tell me that there are several Francis suitors out there, essentially the teams that lost out on the Chris Capuano bidding. Capuano signed a two-year, $10-million deal with the Dodgers. I'm told the Francis camp expects to get at least a two-year offer. Read more...

Candid Cameron: Don't play poker with Dayton

KANSAS CITY - Dayton Moore did not arrive at baseball's winter meetings by falling off a turnip truck. In case you're not familiar with that good ol' country phrase, perhaps I should put it in a crisper, clearer sentence. Moore is no fool. Yes, he knows that Royals fans are excited about the coming season, and that radio chat shows back in Kansas City are buzzing about...

Yost says he expects Royals to 'play much better than .500' next season

DALLAS | Royals manager Ned Yost is ready to up the ante as he looks ahead to next season. The patience required in the nurturing stage of a rebuilding program will now increasingly yield to demands stemming from heightened expectations. And Yost is setting the bar high.

Morosi: Pirates interested in Jeff Francis

The Pirates are one of the teams interested in free agent lefty Jeff Francis, says Jon Morosi, and now we have our first nugget of depressing information from Dallas! I actually thought Francis would've been worth a flier last year, when there was some uncertainty as to how he was going to recover from his shoulder surgery and there was a chance that he'd be able to recover...

Pirates acquire infielder Navarro from KC

The Pirates made a trade late on Wednesday to acquire infielder Yamaico Navarro from the Royals in exchange for Minor Leaguers Brooks Pounders and Diego Goris.

Royals trade Yamaico Navarro to Pirates, make space for Rule 5 Draft

The Royals traded infielder Yamaico Navarro to Pittsburgh for two minor-league players late Wednesday in a clock-beating move that cleared a roster space prior to Thursday morning's Rule 5 Draft at the Winter Meetings.

Winter meetings notebook: Royals unlikely to shift Montgomery to bullpen

DALLAS | A year ago, the Royals shifted right-hander Aaron Crow to the bullpen, after a disappointing season in the minors, as an acclimation step to the big leagues -- and it paid off big. Crow put together a dominant first half that turned him into an All-Star.

Royals Rumors: Soria, Holland

The Royals are downplaying it, but they would trade closer Joakim Soria for a starting pitcher and would also discuss reliever Greg Holland, tweets Joel Sherman of the New York Post.  Soria, 27, is potentially under contract through 2014.  Holland is drawing interest from the Blue Jays and others after a breakout season.

Pirates acquire Yamaico Navarro from Royals for Brooks Pounders

When the news broke this afternoon that the Pirates were no longer in on Wilson Betemit and that they'd made their roster moves to accomodate Erik Bedard and Nate McLouth without releasing Ross Ohlendorf, my gut feeling was that it was a sign that there was another move in the offing. It turns out that was a good instinct: the Pirates traded Brooks Pounders and Diego Goris tonight...
