MLB Interleague Matchup Insight M’s vs Diamondbacks Game 3

It looks like another lost season in the Pacific Northwest.  The Mariners own the second worst record in the American League and even the mighty King Felix Hernandez seems to have caught the underperformance bug this season.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH Jason Vargas (7-6, 3.95 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Trevor Cahill (5-5, 3.08 ERA)

Seattle

It is just hard to see how this team is going to close the gap with the Rangers and Angels…especially with moves like picking up retread starter Oliver Perez.

Starting Wednesday is lefty Jason Vargas who leads the club with a respectable 7 wins.  Better than that is the fact that he has never lost to the Diamondbacks while posting some very good peripherals.

Vargas doesn’t dominate but the lefty has some savvy and can keep the M’s in the game.  Especially if the offense comes alive like it did Tuesday (8 runs already scored at time of writing).

Good value on Seattle Wednesday.

Arizona

Arizona entered Tuesday looking to get back to .500.

Seattle Mariners vs. Arizona Diamondbacks Gambling Odds & Handicapping Preview

They are in third in the NL West and even though there is a significant gap between them and the leading Dodgers they can keep the interest high with the extra playoff spot this year.

Pre-season many thought this would be the team to beat but injuries and poor performance have dampened expectations.

Maybe things are coming around.

Speaking of expectations it seems that Trevor Cahill maybe getting back to the form that looked like it would make him one of the top young pitchers in the American League with Oakland.

This year he is walking more batters than he should but balancing that by not giving up too many hits.

He has won his last three game and given up just 2 runs over his last 23 innings.  If he can stay sharp from here on out the D-Backs have plenty of pitching to get them over the hump.

O/U Pick:  Under
Score Prediction:  Arizona 4 – Seattle 2

Mariners' Vargas experiences June swoon

Jason Vargas is Seattle's winningest pitcher this year at 7-7, but he's lost three games in a row, and Wednesday's 4 1/3-inning, 10-run outing leaves his ERA at 4.66. More than that, he's leaving his pitches up. He'd allowed five homers in the previous three starts before yielding five homers Wednesday at Arizona, the worst home run performance of his career...

Four-hit game pushes Suzuki past 2,500-hit milestone

Ichiro Suzuki doesn't like to get days off, and he accentuated his desire to play in dramatic fashion once he got back on the field. The Seattle Mariners right fielder opened Tuesday's game with his 2,500th career hit and went on to collect three more hits, two of them doubles, in the Mariners' 10-inning, 12-9 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. "If you look...

What a ride: Ichiro Suzuki reaches 2500 hits in near-record time

When I was a kid, "Made in Japan" was like "Made in China" became in the '80s and '90s. It meant, in a word, "cheap." Everything, it seems, but Suzuki, which was a well-built, tough, durable, fun motorcycle brand. Dad bought a couple 125cc Suzukis when I was about 12 or so. What fun! Today, Suzuki means baseball. Not the kind they play in Japan...

Is There Hope For The Diamondbacks?

The first three months of the season have not been kind to the Diamondbacks. An extra-innings loss on Tuesday brings the defending National League West champions’ record to 33-35, nine games out of first place. However, Arizona is better than their record suggests. They are one busted slump, one injury return, and one trade away from contending for a playoff spot. The Diamondbacks...

The Diamondbacks can move above .500 there for the first time in almost two months with a seventh consecutive home victory Tuesday night against the Seattle Mariners. PHOENIX -- In an all-out slugfest with the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, six Diamondbacks hit home runs, tying a franchise record for a single game. The day after going hitless in five at-bats and hearing boos from the Chase Field crowd, Upton launched a three-run home run 457 feet to left-center field in the...

Fizzle & Sizzle – This Week in Mariners Baseball

To all critics who think the Mariners don’t have any good fans, or that these fans fill an unwelcoming ballpark, look no further than, “Cheeseburger!” This fastfood taunt was yelled by a Mariners fan sitting behind the camcorder this past Saturday’s game, while Giants 3rd baseman Pablo Sandoval (otherwise known as Kung Fu Panda in MLB circles), was batting. It’s little...
