The Bryce Harper rookie wrecking derby rolls on. Today he absolute ***** on lefty Mark Buerhle, launching a parabola into the upper tank at Nationals Stadium. The Nationals stole an 8-7, 10-inning win from the Marlins. Harper is raking like he wants that Rookie of the Year trophy above his fireplace. I’m sorry that Harper is filling is up this page so much. Actually I’m not. When he homers, we pin it here. This is because he’s the greatest 19-year old home run hitter of our lifetime.

Bryce Harper, Nationals Teammates Forced to Dress in Leotards as Part of Rookie Hazing (Photos)

When people say Bryce Harper has nice legs, they usually mean he can run very fast. Harper is, after all, one of those multi-tool players -- but one of those tools is not looking good in spandex. Harper and his fellow Washington Nationals rookie teammates got a chance to answer the age-old question of how professional baseball players look in leotards over the weekend. The younger...

Bryce Harper, Nats rookies dress up as gymnasts for hazing (Pictures)

The Nationals dressed their rookies up as smurfs last year as part of their rookie hazing. This year they opted for a more patriotic theme — they dressed their rookies up as US Olympic gymnasts. Pitcher Gio Gonzalez tweeted two pictures of the rooks dressed up as gymnasts. One was taken inside the team’s clubhouse following their 8-0 loss to the Marlins. The other was snapped...

Video of Jayson Werth's game-tying home run in the 9th

Up above, the video (via MLB.com) of Jayson Werth's game-tying home run in the 9th inning on Saturday following that (at times, Biblical) 2 1/2 hour rain delay. How did Werth deal with the delay? As the saying goes, when life gives you chicken sh-t, make chicken salad: "I had a little massage, change of clothes. Had a chicken salad. And then tied it up. It was well...

Fantasy Baseball Home Stretch: Who plays, who sits?

I recently had a reader ask me about which player he should play over the course of a week. The two players are Nationals’ teammates Michael Morse and Bryce Harper. We ultimately decided that Harper is the way to go, as he is more likely to steal a base if he reaches. As this is the playoffs in a head-to-head league, that’s an important distinction. But it...

Jayson Werth hits game-tying home run in 9th, gets bubblegum shower, hair tousled by Michael Morse

And so, after a 2 hour, 33 minute rain delay, Jayson Werth hit a bomb to center field to tie Saturday's game at 6 and send it to extras. Upon his return to the dugout, Werth got a double-bubblegum bucket shower and a new tousled hair style from Michael Morse for the effort. Oh, and the Nats won it 7-6 in the 10th on a Corey Brown walk-off dropped...

Adam LaRoche’s Suddenly Elite Power

The Nationals’ plan to compete this year was a simple one: Trot out a rotation ballasted by Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann and Gio Gonzalez, and hope somebody besides Ryan Zimmerman hits the ball. There was little reason to believe that somebody would be Adam LaRoche. At 32, LaRoche was coming off a season of 45 awful games: 151 plate appearances of .172/.288/.258 hitting...

Nats' Strasburg shut down for season

The Washington Nationals have shut down Stephen Strasburg after a shaky start against the Miami Marlins. Manager Davey Johnson made the announcement Saturday morning. The Nationals had been monitoring the right-hander's workload, and Johnson says the media attention to his innings was ''unbelievable.'' The NL East-leading Nationals had said Wednesday's start...

Washington Nationals Should Just Shut Down Stephen Strasburg Now

The Washington Nationals have said from the start of Spring Training that starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg would be limited to around 160 innings during the 2012 MLB season. It didn’t matter if the team was fighting for a postseason berth or holding off the rest of the league on their way to winning the division. This decision was made for the future of the organization...

DEVELOPING: Strasburg Shut Down

((HT: CSN Washington)) Much to the chagrin of a lot of fantasy owners (and Nationals GM Mike Rizzo et al.) ace Stephen Strasburg has been shut down for the rest of the regular season according to Nats manager Davey Johnson. Strasburg was lifted after only 67 pitches in his last start (his home finale) which only went 3+ innings matching his shortest start of the year. Next...

Nats mishandled Strasburg situation

Stephen Strasburg's season is over, and let's just say neither Democratic nor Republican strategists will seek advice from the Nationals about how to diffuse a Washington controversy. Did the national media get a little overheated about Strasburg's innings limit? Perhaps. But the overriding truth is the Nationals -- with an assist from agent Scott Boras -- botched the...

Poor outing may extend Strasburg's season

A rough night, in which the Nationals' ace allowed five runs in three innings, may open the door to extend Stephen Strasburg's season. The right-hander made what was said to be his final home start Friday against the Miami Marlins, but he allowed two runs in the first and his fastball was hittable. The Marlins seemed to have his number. Hitting a pair of homers and...

Stephen Strasburg Shut Down

Nationals Shut Down Stephen Strasburg It’s official, the Washington Nationals have decided to shut down Stephen Strasburg. This will be the second year in a row the Nationals have decided shut down one of their aces this late in the season. Last year the team shut down Jordan Zimmermann after 161.1 innings. Strasburg is coming off Tommy John surgery after only being able to start...

Nationals, Cubs Benches Clear Twice in Anticlimactic Fashion as Tempers Flare (Video)

The Washington Nationals have been making headlines all season with their play but on Wednesday the story was not their 9-2 win over the lowly Chicago Cubs, but the two flare ups between the teams that led to not one, but two bench-clearing "brawls." The first of the two altecations came in the fifth inning when Nationals third base coach Bo Porter and Cubs bench coach...

Strasburg Saga: Open Letter to Nats GM

Dear Mike Rizzo, I am so disgusted with the handling of Operation Shutdown.  As a baseball fan, Stephen Strasburg is one of the great reasons to watch the game.  His overpowering fastball, devastating slider, change-up, and wicked curveball make him a marvel to witness. The Nationals will not win the World Series without their ace right-hander. You have done an excellent job constructing...
