The Texas Rangers traded first baseman Mark Teixeira to the Atlanta Braves on Monday for a four-player package that includes hot catching prospect Jarrod Saltalamacchia. This according to several reports, including one from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram website.

  • Pending a physical though correct?!
  • YES!!! It's pending a physical
  • Great deal for the Braves. It would have been a good pull for them even if they didn't have McCann.
  • I agree Master. To get a 27-yr old power switch hitting 1B into an already AWESOME lineup, great deal by the BRAVES. Now the need to try and lock him up long-term
  • I heard that the Rangers are going to try and use him at Catcher...
  • Ya, that's his natural position for Salty. Which probably means that Laird is on the moves, probably to the Cubs
  • Salty's going to be good. The guy can swing it. It might not happen right away, but he's got some 30+ HR seasons in him. Maybe even a 40+ campaign if things break right.
  • When you factor in just how good a hitter's park Arlington is, Salty can potentially replace 75% of Tex's production and do it from the catchers spot. Andrus took a step back, but is very young and an incredible talent. Great trade by Jon Daniels, I didn't see him getting this kind of talent for just Teixeira.
  • Actually a very short sighted move for the Braves. They have traded their 1,2 and 3 prospects, according to Baseball America for a 15 month rental. Teixeira will be good, but they are mortgaging their future. This move, by no means, guarantees a playoff spot. They still have some major issues in their pen. 10 years of Saltalamacchia, Andrus and Harrison are going to look real good when Teixeira bolts to more money in '09.
  • Very good deal for both teams. I still think the Braves don't have enough pitching.
