There have been few no-hitters as odd as the one Miami Marlins right-hander Henderson Alvarez pitched Sunday against the Detroit Tigers. Alvarez didnt allow a hit or run through nine innings, but couldnt register an official no-hitter unless his teammates could score a run before he gave up a hit. The Marlins did just that in the bottom of the ninth, when Tigers reliever Luke Putkonens wild pitch with the bases loaded and two out allowed Giancarlo Stanton to scamper home. With the 1-0 win secured, Alvarez bolted from the dugout and onto the field, where he was mobbed by his teammates at Marlins Park. He struck out only four Tigers, but needed just one superb play to make history. Shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria leaped and snared a third-inning liner by Ramon Santiago. Both Alvarez, a 23-year-old Venezuelan, and Hechavarria came to Miami last November in a blockbuster, 11-player deal that sent Jose Reyes, Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson, John Buck and Emilio Bonifacio to the Toronto Blue...

The Marlins Go Out With A Bang In One Of The Weirdest Game Endings Ever

It’s been a brutal season for the Miami Marlins, playing on the theme of a rebuilding year and the introduction of their “youth movement.”  Sunday’s game against the Tigers might be a preview of what’s to come, as Marlins pitcher Henderson Alvarez threw a no hitter to cap off a 62-100 campaign.  In a truly special moment for this squad, even more unique was how the game...

The Miami Marlins Pulled Off The Strangest No-Hitter Against The Detroit Tigers

(via Getty Image)The Miami Marlins scored a 1-0 victory over the Detroit Tigers yesterday to keep their season loss total at an even 100, and that’s a positive because finishing with exactly 100 losses would be a pretty cool feat.
