In the first game ever played in Marlins Park by the Miami Marlins, the residents came away 7-6 winners in walk-off fashion against the University of Miami Hurricanes.    Trailing by one entering the bottom of the ninth, it appeared the Marlins would drop the special event until journeyman Terry Tiffee came up with the game winning knock.    The win does not count in the Grapefruit League standings where the Fish remain 1-1 for the Spring.

Mark Buehrle started the game for Miami and did so in perfect fashion for the first two innings.   The veteran struck out three in those first two frames and worked briskly as he has been known to do throughout his career.   Things got shaky in the third however as Buehrle surrendered three runs to put the Marlins behind 3-0 early.    The lefty batted thru to go a full three innings while allowing four total hits on the day.   Elih Villanueva was next up allowing two runs in two innings of work.  Villanueva who saw time in the Majors in 2011 is expected to open the year in the AAA rotation.    Ryan Webb, Edward Mujica, Steve Cishek and Robert Ray saw the rest of the work on the mound.

The first homerun ever hit by a Marlin came off the bat of none other than Hanley Ramirez in the fourth inning.   The blast went opposite field in a park several players called big.   One of the biggest days came courtesy of highly touted prospect Christian Yelich who went 2-3 with a run batted in after replacing Logan Morrison early on.     All-Star Gaby Sanchez was also 2-3 while the hero Tiffee went 2-2 in his quest to catch the eye of the front office for later in the season.

The Marlins will play two games on Wednesday.  In the first game at 1:05 PM, the Mets will visit Jupiter and face Sean West.   In the evening at Marlins Park, Ricky Nolasco will get the ball as he opposes Florida International University.
