Tom Martin who had quietly become the front runner as the second lefty in the pen took two big hits last week, he was sidelined with a calf injury and at the same time the Mets signed Ron Villone. That didn't deter him from continuing, he was suppose to play catch with Tim Redding on the off day while wearing a boot on his injured leg. Apparently Martin fell down the stairs yesterday, probably stumbling over the boot and broke his wrist. In a small bit of luck at least it was his off hand he put out to brace himself and not his pitching hand. It will be awhile until he comes anywhere near a mound and his best hope now is probably as a Sept. call-up, tough break....Consider Tom Martin out of the bullpen mix. Martin, who already had been hobbled with a right calf strain, fractured his right wrist yesterday when he fell down the stairs. The good news? Martin is lefthanded, but he won't be back any time soon. source Newsday
