AP Photo/Phelan M. Ebenhack For the time being the Metsecutives (Sandy Alderson, J.P. Ricciardi, and Paul DePodesta) all remain part of the same front office.  Alderson, who signed a 4-year contract this past offseason, certainly isn’t going anywhere, but DePodesta (the team’s Vice President of Player Development & Amateur Scouting) and Ricciardi (who is serving as a Special Assistant to Alderson) may hear their names called when team’s with openings at the GM level begin interviewing.  Ricciardi, for example, has been tied to Orioles GM position that was recently vacated by Andy McPhail. Though  rumors have begun to circulate, nothing appears imminent as no team has yet to contact the Mets and request permission to interview either former GM: #bbpBox_124619563773067265 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_124619563773067265 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; }As of this moment, the Mets have not received any requests from other teams to interview J.P. Ricciardi or Paul DePodesta for GM openings.about 2 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite@SurfingTheMetsAndy Martino While I think the experience that both DePo and Ricciardi bring to the front office can only be viewed as a plus, I won’t lose any sleep if either leaves.  Ricciardi, who had a relationship with Jason Isringhausen from their time  in Oakland, played a large part in bringing the veteran in this Spring to throw for the team.  At the time, the former Blue Jay’s GM was quoted as saying:
It doesn’t cost anything to look at a guy,” Ricciardi said. “He asked if he could come over and throw and it was no problem.”

Baron In the end the move worked out better than anyone could have anticipated as Izzy turned out to be one of the few ‘feel good’ stories of the Mets 2011 season.  It also showed what kind of relationships and ties with players certain experienced executives have.  I can only guess that Chris Young and Sandy Alderson shared a similar relationship and hence the Mets (for better or worse) were able to land the starter on an incentive laden deal.  With or without DePodesta and Ricciardi the team’s problems now lay primarily on the field, in my opinion, which wasn’t a statement I would have felt comfortable making two years ago at this time.
