When he’s not playing baseball, Matt Kemp is working to become the game’s sartorial MVP. Like many other male athletes, the MLB fashionisto has even expressed an interest in clothing design. To merge his two interests and to commemorate a successful 2011 season, Diamond Cupply Co. and Hall of Fame Ltd. have teamed up with the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder to release a capsule collection of tees and caps. Despite a breakout season, Kemp fell short of the NL MVP award prompting a series of nicknames from fans. His limited-edition line of graphic tees, caps and raglan tees feature those nicknames, including “KeMVP,” “Beastmode” and “People’s Champ.” Among the Kemp-themed designs in the collection are snapback caps with a Kemp block logo, available in black, royal blue and heather grey. 100% of the proceeds of the Kemp-themed gear will go to “Kemps Kids,” a program that benefits inner city & underprivileged youth. Fans can check out the gear here and here. Despite coming in second as the National League MVP, he is still recognized as the “People’s Champ”. 100% of the proceeds from the collection benefit “Kemp’s Kids” a player program within the Dodgers Organization established by Matt to provide underprivileged and inner-city youth with opportunities to visit and experience Dodger Stadium. Kemp’s Kids is also dedicated to elevating and increasing the relevance of Major League Baseball and participation of youth baseball among inner-city youth in the greater Los Angeles area. Matt who is known to L.A. fans as “KeMVP” “Beastmode” “Fan Favorite” and the “People’s Champ”, are all themes seen throughout the collection. The collection in and of itself is representation of Matt’s bridge from the ballpark to the lifestyle/street culture. [Source: highsobiety.com]
