Macho Row:
In a move that is not too surprising, John Mayberry Jr. was sent back down to Lehigh Valley. After seeing only one appearance since his debut in Yankee Stadium it was expected that Mayberry would be the first to be sent back to the minors to make room on the roster for pitcher Antonio Bastardo.
Expect Mayberry to rejoin the team though when the Phillies take on more American League teams on the road.
With the promotion of Bastardo to the major league team the rest of the minor league system is moving pitchers as well. Gustavo Chacin was sent from double A Reading to triple A Lehigh Valley to fill the void left by Bastardo. Following the line of succession the Reading Phillies welcomed Kyle Drabek from single A Clearwater.
Drabek's news is the most news worthy for Phillies fans in tune with the minor league system as he is one of the top pitching prospects down on the farm. Drabek was the team's first pick in the 2006 draft.
On somewhat related news, Brett Myers was officially placed on the disabled list. For the time being Myers is listed on the 15 day DL while the team waits to see how the surgery goes. The roster on the left side of the website has been updated to reflect these changes.
