Found July 20, 2013 on Atlanta Bullpen:
The Atlanta Braves started the 2nd half of the season with a win on Friday night.  It was a Brian McCann home run that paved the way for a 6-4 Braves win over the Chicago White Sox. Andrelton Simmons was the 1st Atlanta Brave to homer in the 2nd half of the 2013 season.  His 2-run shot in the 3rd inning put the Braves up 2-0. The Braves lead would not last long however.  The White Sox were able to tie the game back up on a double by Alex Rios. Josh Phegley and Alexi Ramirez came in to score on the double by the White Sox right fielder. The score would be tied at 2 until Braves all-star, Brian McCann, hit his 13th homerun of the season in the 6th inning. Joey Terdoslavich, and Justin Upton were on the bases when McCann sent a ball over the right field fence.  McCann’s 3-run homer put the Braves up, 5-2. The White Sox pulled within 1 run of the Braves in the 8th.  Alexi Ramirez, and Jeff Keppinger both singled in runs in the inning.  The Braves lead was cut to 5-4. Chris Johnson gave ...

Rios benched for not hustling

White Sox manager Robin Ventura benched Alex Rios after he did not run hard enough to try to prevent a double play.

Braves Option Out Pastornicky, Recall Loe

The Atlanta Braves called up right-handed relief pitcher Kameron Loe from Triple-A Gwinnett and optioned out utility infielder Tyler Pastornicky. The 6’8″ 245 pound Loe will add depth and experience to one of the best bullpens in baseball.  Loe had a 4-2 record and 3.19 ERA at Gwinnett.  Loe pitched 42.1 innings and gave up 40 hits while striking out 24 and walking only...

Chopcast: Playoff run begins as Braves return from break

ATLANTA -- All three of the Braves All-Stars -- Craig Kimbrel, Brian McCann and Freddie Freeman -- have rejoined the team in Chicago to kick off the second half of the season, one in which the organization is poised to make its second-consecutive playoff appearance for the first time since the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Despite a first half defined, at times, by injuries and inconsistencies...

Freeman Escapes Injury After Collision

Atlanta Braves first Freddie Freeman missed the All-Star game due to a jammed thumb and didn’t start Friday night to give the injury more time to heal.  But with the Braves up 5-4, he went into the game to replace Joey Terdoslavich as a defensive replacement in the eighth inning. So the last thing Freeman probably needed was a collision at first base, right? Not only did Freeman...

White Sox activate Peavy from DL

The pitching-starved Chicago White Sox activated right-handed pitcher Jake Peavy from the disabled list Friday and could be about a week away from getting right-handed set-up man Jesse Crain back as well. Peavy (6-4, 4.30) returns to the starting rotation Saturday against lefty Paul Maholm (9-8, 3.98) and the Atlanta Braves at U.S. Cellular Field. Peavy, 32, has been sidelined since...

With Konerko Returning from DL, Morel Gets Optioned

Returning from his rehab stint at AA Birmingham, Paul Konerko is ready for what could be his last stretch of baseball in a White Sox uniform. To make room for him, the team has optioned third baseman Brent Morel to AAA Charlotte. Brent Morel didn't look like the defensive stud we know him to be, but he did show good versatility being able to move back and forth between...

Three Cuts: McCann, Braves hang on to beat White Sox, 6-4

After making things interesting in the eighth inning, the Braves held on to beat the White Sox 5-4 in Comerica Park Friday night. Here are three observations from the game: 1. Brian McCann is setting himself up to make some serious money this offseason White Sox pitcher John Danks kept making mistake after mistake against McCann in the sixth inning, leaving off-speed pitches up...

Robin Ventura pulls Alex Rios from game for lack of hustle

White Sox outfielder Alex Rios found himself on the wrong side of the usually patient Robin Ventura on Friday night against the Braves. It all came down to Rios's apparent lack of hustle during the fifth inning -- a willful mistake that prompted Ventura to lift Rios from the game and replace him with Casper Wells in right. Here's how MLB.com's Scott Merkin described...

Trade Values: Alexei Ramirez

Last night we heard that the Pittsburgh Pirates were looking at Alex Rios, and also might consider Alexei Ramirez. I’ve already done a Trade Values article on Rios. That article included a brief estimate of the value of Ramirez, although that came from just glancing at his stats and contracts, rather than digging in deep and looking at him closer. With last night’s rumor, I decided...

Red Sox rumors: Alex Rios, Jake Peavy, Michael Young

The Boston Red Sox enter the second half of the regular season sitting in first place in the American League East. While they’re looking down at all other teams in the East, their advantage in the standings hasn’t stopped them from exploring trade options to improve their club. Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have scouted Chicago White Sox outfielder...

Pirates Looking at Alex Rios; Might Be Looking at Alexei Ramirez

The Pittsburgh Pirates are looking at Alex Rios, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. He also adds that “people familiar with Pittsburgh’s thinking suggest they wouldn’t be surprised if the Pirates expand the talks to include Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez”. That’s similar to the trade idea Jim Bowden floated out there a week ago, although I don’t think the cost would...

Report: Red Sox Scouted Alex Rios, Michael Young in Past Week, Will Watch Jake Peavy Closely

The Red Sox and White Sox already consummated one trade this season. Perhaps another one won’t be too far behind. The Red Sox, who already acquired reliever Matt Thornton from the White Sox, scouted Chicago outfielder Alex Rios and will scout pitcher Jake Peavy closely over his next couple of starts, according to The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo. The Red Sox reportedly scouted...

Peavy Wins in Front of Scouts, But Rios Steals the Stage

With the 'second half' of the regular season getting underway on Friday night against the Atlanta Braves, it's time to over-analyze everything we can about the White Sox' trade candidates. On Saturday, Jake Peavy made his first start back from the disabled list with many teams' scouts in attendance. But it was Alex Rios, who bounced back from being benched...
