Replacement Level Yankees:
With Sergio Mitre not impressing, the Yankees made a deal with San Diego for Chad Gaudin. Gaudin's probably best known for his
2007 season in Oakland, where he pitched 199.1 innings with an ERA+ of 95, which is around average for a starter. He's got a
career ERA of 4.58 and is only 26 years old, but has struggled with the Padres in 2009, putting up an ERA of 5.13 despite a very
nice FIP of 3.68. The Padres defense has been below average this year, although not necessarily much worse than the Yankees (-
16.8 UZR versus -14.7), but that could be part of the reason for the ERA/FIP disparity.
Most of the projection systems were pretty bullish on Gaudin entering 2009. These projections were made for Gaudin as a Cub, so
keep that in mind.
