BEST OF MAXIM
David Wright and Ruben Tejada seem more than comfortable working together after the departure of Jose Reyes
Welcome to our off-season, my Mets faithful! I realize there is still post-season baseball to be played (how ’bout those A’s, huh?) but for the Kings of Queens, the off-field work is already starting. As we at the Daily Stache begin the long wait until February 13...
Baseball America ranked the Top 20 Prospects in the New York-Penn League and featured four Mets farmhands in RHP Luis Mateo #5, CF Brandon Nimmo #11, RHP Hansel Robles #12 and SS Philip Evans #18. Not a bad showing at all. Here is what they had to say on each of them:5. Luis Mateo:He’s a true power pitcher who sits at 92-95 mph and touches 96 regularly, with good angle on his...
MIAMI -- Ike Davis finished off his strong second half with another home run. Davis hit his 32nd home run, his 20th after the All-Star break, to help lead the New York Mets beat the Miami Marlins 4-2 Wednesday in the season finale. "It's the way I expected to play the whole year," Davis said of his second half. "I just wasn't fortunate enough to start off...
The New York Mets and Miami Marlins are both getting ready to finish up disappointing campaigns.
While the Mets are bringing back their entire coaching staff in 2013, there remains much more uncertainly surrounding the Marlins and their plans for next season.
In what could be Ozzie Guillen's last game at the helm, the Marlins try for a three-game sweep of the visiting Mets...
The pieces are all familiar. We’ve been here before. There are two games left to the year and the Mets are out of it. Again. We fans sit on the sidelines and watch other guys have fun for the next couple of weeks. We watch, intrigued and happy for the Orioles and A’s. We watch, bored by the Yankees and Braves. We watch, impressed by the Reds and Nationals. We watch, because...
THAT'S THE TOPPS
0-1, 1 Strikeout, 0.000 BA. That is how Miami Marlins one at bat pinch-hitter Adam Greenberg’s Topps rookie baseball card will read on the back. Topp’s announced on Wednesday that they will make a baseball card for Adam Greenberg. Their claim, “Adam Greenberg @Marlins embodies dedication, hard work & persistence.” They also left out the [...]
1975 TOPPS HANK WEBB WAX BOXBack in the spring of 2011, I did a piece on Hank Webb. This past May, I wrote about a 1970 Topps box.Well, today is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup moment. The moment that I stumble into the path of a random stranger, we collide awkwardly, and then exclaim in sequence “You got Webb on my box!/No, you got box on my Webb!”This moment comes courtesy...
Miami Marlins bench coach Joey Cora wanted nothing to do with Carlos Lee's fist bump as Lee headed out to the field for the ninth inning of Tuesday night's game against the New York Mets.
Since Cora wouldn't reciprocate, Lee took it upon himself to grab Cora's arm with one hand to bump his own fist.

Sandy Alderson was guest of Mike Francesa today on WFAN. The Mets GM confirmed that he has spoken with David Wright’s agents in the last 24 hours and said:“There are no guarantees of a resolution to a contract extension, but we are going to move on this very quickly.”Here is a summary of what else was discussed:Jason Bay – He repeated again that he does not intend to release...
Well, Sandy Alderson did meet with Mets beat writers as I mentioned earlier and he had a mouthful to say. Adam Rubin got a good summary of everything:Wow… So lets see…1. Informal conversations have taken place with Dickey and Wright. I think that’s called discussing parameters.2. Buyouts on options for Santana and Bay ARE part of the 2013 Payroll – That’s Huge. $9 million...
MIAMI It seems the only argument about what sort of season the Miami Marlins had is which grading system to use.
Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen was asked how he would rate the campaign.
"By numbers or by letters?" he said.
How about both?
"Letters, Z," Guillen said. "Numbers, minus-0. We failed in every department. We failed. Very sad and very embarrassing...
In one of the more heart-warming stories of the Major League Baseball season, Adam Greenberg of the Miami Marlins got his second Major League at-bat of his career after a disastrous first one.
Greenberg's story dates back to the 2005 when he got his first Major League at-bat with the Chicago Cubs but that plate appearance didn't last long as he was hit in the head by the...
