Detroit ace Justin Verlander pitched three perfect innings Friday in the Tigers' 6-2 loss to the New York Mets. Wright played his final game before leaving to join Team USA at the World Baseball Classic. He later hit an RBI single. Mets starter Jonathon Niese threw three scoreless innings in his spring debut. Zack Wheeler And The Brewing Of Excitement

The Mets’ first spring telecast from Port St. Lucie was this past Saturday (2/24). This was good news on several fronts. It pointed out that spring – the actual season, spring – is, indeed, on the way, that we here in the chilly Northeast will shortly be freed from this bleak midwinter. It evoked a coming time of short sleeves and short pants, those days of soda and pretzels...

Rafael Montero makes Grapefruit League debut for Mets

New York Mets prospect Rafael Montero made his Grapefruit League debut Thursday afternoon against the Washington Nationals.  The 22-year-old right-hander, who recorded a 2.36 ERA while compiling 110 strikeouts vs. just 19 walks in 122 innings of A ball last year, gave up one run on three hits in two innings of work during his start against Washington. Stephen Strausburg may...

Tigers 4, Pirates 1

Miguel Cabrera hit his third home run of the spring and Drew Smyly pitched three perfect innings for a Detroit Tigers split squad in a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. Austin Jackson had one of Detroit's three hits and scored twice. Cabrera, the reigning AL MVP and Triple Crown winner, was scheduled to leave Tigers camp later in the day, along with teammates...

Carlos Beltran: Why do fans still hate him?

The New York Mets took a chance nearly two years ago when they traded an established outfielder and clubhouse leader in Carlos Beltran. Beltran, who still ranks in the top ten in several offensive categories in Mets history, has recently stated that their gamble paid off. At the time, the experts proclaimed that the immediate winner in the Wheeler-Beltran deal was the San Francisco...

It's Spring For The Announcers Too

I wouldn't know Reese Havens if he came up to me and hit me over the head with a baseball bat. That's assuming he wouldn't swing and miss. Although if he hit me, he probably would pull an oblique muscle and miss a month, the poor bastard. Point being: I don't get paid to recognize Reese Havens. And contrary to what you might think, I don't carry a spring training...

Tigers 11, Rays 2

Evan Longoria had two hits in his second spring game in the Tampa Bay Rays' 11-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Thursday. Longoria improved to 4 for 5 at the plate this spring after getting off to a late start following offseason back surgery. Austin Jackson hit a two-run homer, Nick Castellanos had three hits with an RBI and Anibal Sanchez pitched three scoreless innings in...

Featured Post: Is It Time To Start Buying Into Sandy Alderson’s Plan?

At the start of the show… Yes. That title is for real. We have been so busy ridiculing the man for his cost-cutting style of management, that we are not taking the time to take a step back and see the big picture. You could sit and watch the thirty minute episodes of Bob Ross’ show, which featured him painting, and witness him scratching and poking away at that canvass, switching...
