Found January 31, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
The Mets announced they have signed free-agent RHP LaTroy Hawkins to a minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. If Hawkins makes the team, he will earn a base salary of $1 million with chance to earn more in incentives. The 40-year old Hawkins spent last year with the Los Angeles Angels where he went 2-3 with a 3.49 ERA. In 42 innings pitched he posted a 4.9 strikeout rate and 2.8 walk rate. Hawkins has missed chunks of time in 2010 and 2011 due to shoulder surgery, and last season he was out for nearly a month with a fractured finger. The veteran righthander will give the Mets another option to consider this Spring as they look to revamp their bullpen. Despite the signing of Hawkins and Scott Atchison earlier this week, the Mets are still looking for bullpen help according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.

Mets still in the relief market..

Jon Heyman just tweeted that the Mets are still in the relief market after signing LaTroy Hawkins.  Like I said as long as Hawkins isn't the primary guy they sign to back-up Francisco then its a very good move.  It appears that the Mets will bring in another former closer whether it's Wilson, Krod or even a return of Rauch...

Dewey, Cheatem, and Hawkins

"The reason we haven't spent the money is not because of Fred Wilpon. It's because of me." -Sandy Alderson Well, that's a fine sentiment. And I'm sure the Wilpons appreciate that GM Sandy Alderson is willing to stand in front of the season ticket holders and take the bullet for them. Not that I believe it for a second. Because I'd buy it if the decision...

Sorry about yesterday. We’ll try to have an actual, real post today. Since I mentioned Latroy Hawkins yesterday, another former Twin bull pen pitcher has found work. Matt Capps to the Indians. The fact that this guy didn’t get away probably goes a long way to explaining why his NASCAR career didn’t work out. The Kansas City Royals are on someone’s “enemies list”. They...

Sandy Alderson answered that question on Thursday night during his...

From Left Field: Can The Strategy In The Bullpen Work?
