Found August 10, 2013 on New York Mets Report:
All of a sudden, I’ve been reading with head-scratching confusion how several bloggers are suggesting the New York Mets trade Wilmer Flores. Why? What good would it serve other than just giving away a prospect? What could they possibly get for him now? Their confused reasoning is since the Mets have few position player prospects they should trade their best one. Yup, makes sense to me. FLORES: Don’t even think of trading him. Flores has been with the Mets for just a handful of games, too small a window to ascertain his potential, and also way too tiny for another team to figure out what to do with him or how he could fit into their plans. The reason the Mets are having a hard time figuring out what to do with him, and only brought him up because of David Wright’s strained hamstring, is because they don’t know where to play him because he doesn’t have a position. Wright will occupy third base for much of the next decade; supposedly he doesn’t have the range to play shortstop or speed...

Flores Impresses In First Week, Will Get Shot At Second Base Next

Congratulations to Wilmer Flores who walloped his first major-league home run on Sunday as the Mets beat the Diamondbacks 9-5. Flores extended his streak to five straight games with an RBI and also tied the franchise record for most runs batted in with nine in his first six major league appearances. It’s shaping up to be one of the best debuts for a Mets position player in franchise...

Does Wilmer Flores Have A Long-Term Future with the Mets?

Right now, the Mets are a fun team to watch, mostly because the fan base doesn’t expect much. We’re currently amidst a time of transition when we get to see some of the young guys and find out what everyone is really made of. A perfect example of that is Wilmer Flores, who got the call because David Wright went down with an injury. While he’s played well during his first week...

Mets Farm Lacks Position Players, So Lets Trade Wilmer Flores

Sorry for the title, it wasn’t intended to be serious, but more of a retort I’ve been giving a lot of Met fans lately who seem to be in a rush to trade Wilmer Flores. A notion I find to be highly illogical given the precarious offensive dilemma the Mets find themselves in. I had a cool exchange with Michael Baron of MetsBlog a few days ago and I think it goes to my point. @michaelgbaron...

Hits & Misses: Forever Young? Who’s At Short? A Flores For Your Thoughts?

What a week we just wrapped up and as is usually the case, there’s plenty of storylines and news we can talk about before the Mets take the field at 10:10 PM against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Who’s At Short? For the time being Terry Collins is fully intent on going with Omar Quintanilla as his everyday shortstop. “I’ve yet to see why Omar Quintanilla should lose his job. All...

Featured Post: Balancing Growing Pains With Search For Run Production

The long-anticipated arrival of Wilmer Flores to the Mets’ big league roster highlighted two areas of concern for the organization going forward: first, the dearth of viable position player prospects at the upper levels of the system, and second, the need for a modicum of patience on the part of fans and management alike to allow those few prospects that emerge sufficient time...

Niese Returns Triumphantly, Flores Slams First MLB HR In 9-5 Mets Win

Hit em hard, hit em fast… The Mets held to that today and kept the D-Backs at bay the entire game as they flattened Arizona in a 9-5 win. They took the lead early after Paul Goldschmidt booted a grounder with the bases loaded and two out. A routine play that would have ended the inning ended up plating all three runs as the Mets hustled around the bases to score, giving the Mets...

Daniel Murphy is your second baseman of today and tomorrow

With the calling up of highly touted prospect Wilmer Flores and the recent emergence of Ike Davis’ plate presence, Met fans might be contemplating how this team will be configured going forward in the next few months and into next season.  It’s been clearly evident in the Sandy Alderson regime that the organizational backbone is to be built around the strength and depth of...

Wilmer Flores: The Anti-Gregg Jefferies

Say the name Gregg Jefferies to any long-time Mets fan and you’ll get various reactions.  Some people loved his spunk and appreciated his contributions to the team as it pushed toward the 1988 NL East title.  Other cringe upon hearing his name because of the negative effects he had on the clubhouse and the team’s chemistry. Gregg Jefferies had a remarkable final five weeks...

MMO Players of the Week: Speed Kills… And So Do 3-RBI Games

Things are starting to look bright. Despite David Wright landing on the DL and speculations about him not coming back for the season, the Mets seem to be doing just fine without him. Completing a sweep of the Rockies (who had won 8 straight against the Mets at Citi Field prior) and taking 2/3 from the fading Diamondbacks was a pleasure to watch. Dominant pitching matched with timely...
