A New York Mets fan was arrested Wednesday night for doing something that every sports fan has done at least once in their life. Eduardo Cornejo, a thirty year old off-duty police officer was arrested for moving to a better seat at Citi Field during the Reds-Mets game.

According to police, the seven-year-veteran had a paid seat to last night’s Mets/Reds game at Citi Field, but he moved down to a better seat at some point. Around 9:30 p.m., he was cornered by security. According to reports, Cornejo refused to move back to his old seat and was promptly arrested.

If we sit back and examine the supposed facts, Cornejo was cornered around 9:30. The game started at 7:10 and took two hours and fifty-one minutes to play. That means it ended at 10:01, which puts the police encounter probably somewhere in the seventh or eighth inning. According to espn.com, the attendance was 22,659 or 53.9% of Citi Field’s capacity. Ergo, there should have been no issue with Cornejo snagging a better view to watch the Mets bullpen blow a 3-2 lead.

You’d think the NYPD would have better things to do than cuff seat-changers. The heroes from way back on 9/11, 2001 should pass along a thing or two to the zeroes from 5/16, 2012.

The Mets lost the game 6-3 after leading 3-1 through six innings.

I thought NYC was the place where you’d have your little beef and then FUHGEDDABOUDIT! Guess not.

  • Wow was security that board???? We all have done it is correct in your story. I have even had police take me to empty seats!
  • Back in the early 80s, when the Atl Braves sucked, we'd buy the $2 gen admin outfield tix and then move down behind home plate. Wasn't hard when they were drawing 6000 to a weeknight game.
