“The Mets have crossed Chris Capuano off their list as he seeks a two-year deal,” Jon Heyman writes in his latest report for SI.com. The 33-year-old Capuano signed a one-year deal with the Mets last winter. He was 11-12 with a 4.55 ERA in 33 appearances for the Mets last season, during which he struck out 168 batters and walked 53 in 186 innings. He had an 8.61 ERA in the 6th inning this past season and a 12.15 ERA in the seventh inning. In late October, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York wrote, “Capuano would be vying with Dillon Gee for a rotation spot, with the loser headed to the bullpen, where Capuano would serve as a capable left-hander as well as long man if he’s the odd man out.” Matthew Cerrone (Posted on Nov. 14, at 2:40 pm): In late September, all signs pointed to the Mets wanting to re-sign Capuano this off season. However, as I’ve been saying for a while, it seems likely that some team will offer him a two-year deal (probably worth around $...

MMO Top 20 Mets Prospects – #12 Jordany Valdespin, INF

Welcome back for the 9th installment of the MMO Mets Top 20 Prospects list, featuring the #12 Mets prospect, Buffalo Bisons infielder Jordany Valdespin. Valdespin wouldn’t have made this list if not for the impressive showing he made in 2011. Although he is a gifted and “toolsy” athlete, he is still very raw, with a great many holes in his game. It’s just...

The Fire Drill Before the Fire

Remember back in elementary school when fire drills would catch everyone by surprise? Well the Mets and their fan base experienced something of a fire drill today when rumors (courtesy of XM Radio) began to perpetuate about Jose Reyes and the Miami Marlins agreeing to a contract that was dependent on Reyes passing a physical. The false reports stirred up a general consensus of â...

Mets may not be priced out on Reyes just yet

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the New York Mets may still be players for shortstop Jose Reyes, even at the reported ‘bid’ of $90 million by the Miami Marlins: #bbpBox_136591981840302081 a { text-decoration:none; color:#cc0000; }#bbpBox_136591981840302081 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; }Assuming report of $90M for 6 from miami for reyes is right, #mets think...

Murphy or Duda could be on the block ?

Ken Rosenthal speculates that the Mets could look to trade one of Lucas Duda or Dan Murphy because of duplication. Alderson has suggested several times when speaking to the media that some of the holes could be filled this off-season through trades and if the team is rebuilding then they'd probably be reluctant to deal prospects...Alderson loves the long ball and with the fences...

WHERE HAVE YOU GONE NELLY D, METS FANS TURN THEIR LOSING EYES TO YOU

Rumors were flying again yesterday that Jose Reyes signed with the Flamboyant Fish but those rumors seem premature but it looks like the Mets are going forward in the post-Reyes era by letting it known that #Imwith28 will be given the 2nd base job and team with Ruben Tejeda to secure the middle infield. In the name of the father…… The major problem with #Imwith28 is his two best...

Mets Could Be Interested in Matt Capps

Paul Kinzer, the agent for free agent reliever Matt Capps, said he could see the Mets being interested in his client; although he did not specify whether or not the Mets had reached out to him, Andy Martino tweeted on Tuesday: #bbpBox_136207608846614528 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_136207608846614528 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; }Matt Capps' agent...

Minor Moves: Taylor Buchholz

The latest minor moves... Taylor Buchholz cleared waivers, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Though he still appears on the team's official roster, it appears that the Mets outrighted him off of it. He would have earned roughly $1.2MM in 2012 had the Mets retained him through arbitration. GM Sandy Alderson isn't sure if anxiety and depression will prevent...

Mets Rumors: Reyes, Closer, Murphy, Duda

The Mets were far from the favorite for Jose Reyes entering the offseason.  But if the Marlins offered Reyes six years and $90MM as a starting bid, Mets fans can forget about him coming back in the opinion of ESPN New York's Adam Rubin.  For months now, the impression has been that the Mets don't want to exceed four years for the shortstop.  They'll have to hope for...

Alderson: Reyes chase won’t have short stop

Milwaukee — Sandy Alderson isn’t convinced the Mets are in a game of beat the clock regarding Jose Reyes. The Mets general manager is well aware the Miami Marlins are in hot pursuit of the All-Star shortstop. But Alderson is sticking by his belief Reyes’ free-agent tour will probably be...

Are the 2012 Marlins Trying To Be The 2005 Mets?

The Marlins have reportedly offered contracts to Jose Reyes, Albert Pujols, and Mark Buehrle and they have expressed interest in Ryan Madison. Are they the 2005 Mets? Going into 2005, the Mets brought in a new manager to bring a new sense of energy into the franchise (and a new GM to spur this, which is probably the largest reason for why the Marlins are not the Mets) in Willie...

What I’ve Been Saying All Along: The Mets should explore trading Murphy, Duda, Tejada or Turner

Won't trade Davis. But maybe one of other two. #MLBabout 8 hours ago via Twitter for MacReplyRetweetFavorite@Ken_RosenthalKen Rosenthal I would also add Ruben Tejada and Justin...

The day began with news of an offer extended to Jose Reyes. It ended with the Mets facing a decision: Alter their view of the shortstop’s value, or play against him for the next six years.
