While nothing is imminent, Minaya has confirmed that he met with Bean Stringfellow (yes, that's his real name), agent for free agent pitcher Claudio Vargas. Vargas had a strong spring (3-1, 3.86) , but given the Brewers deep pitching staff he ended up being the odd man out. Vargas isn't what you'd call a dominating pitcher, but he is a serviceable arm at the back of the rotation. Omar is no stranger to Vargas. While with the Expos, Vargas was acquired from the Marlins along with former Met Cliff Floyd.
