Found April 04, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
With Aaron Laffey officially named the starter on Sunday, when the Mets complete their series against the Miami Marlins, the front office have a corresponding move to make. It looks like the beneficiary will be Darin Gorski who was initially assigned to Double-A Binghamton. The left-hander, who I had pegged for Vegas all along, had a solid season for Bingo in 2012, making 24 starts and posting a 4.00 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 139.2 innings pitched.

Buck and Byrd get it done for Mets, bullpen doesn’t, offense explodes

John Buck and Marlon Byrd both had years to forget in 2012. Given their age – and a cynic might note, the fact that they both wound up on the Mets – things did not figure to improve all that much in 2013. After all, it’s hard to play baseball with a giant fork sticking out of your back. But a funny thing happened as both players turned in very impressive Grapefruit League...

Harvey-Mania Is Taking The Citi By Storm!

What a game by Matt Harvey last night, and if you missed our interview with him on Monday, you should check it out. As we stated last night, this is exactly what aces are supposed to do. The young right-hander went 7.0 innings and surrendered one hit last night, tied for the fewest he’s allowed in a single game in his career. He also went 7.0 innings and allowed one hit on September...

Matt Harvey terrific for the New York Mets in season debut

The New York Mets cruised to an 8-4 victory over the San Diego Padres  behind the right arm of future star, Matt Harvey. Harvey looked absolutely filthy on Wednesday night.  The 24-year-old dominated the Padres lineup allowing just one hit, with 10 strikeouts and two walks over seven scoreless innings of work, picking up his first victory of 2013 and first career win at Citi Field...

Feliciano And Francisco Threw Simulated Games On Tuesday

According to Metsblog, Mets’ relievers Frank Francisco and Pedro Feliciano threw in simulated games in Port St. Lucie on Tuesday. Francisco continues to recover from off-season elbow surgery, and is currently on the disabled list, retroactive to March 22. The righty threw an inning of work, which consisted of 20 pitches. Mets lefty reliever Feliciano continues to work on his...

Mets’ Collins Keeps Pat Hand; Roster Notes

True to his word, manager Terry Collins is keeping a pat hand. Of course, why would you change anything after scoring 11 runs? COWGILL: Back on top of order. However, too often in recent seasons the Mets lineup seemed to change daily, with no regard of who was hot or slumping. Granted, there are times when a slump or bad pitching match-up will force a change, but I like Collins...

Mets Card of the Week: 1984 Dave Johnson

1984 TOPPS TIFFANY DAVE JOHNSON I slept with this card under my pillow the other night, hoping thoughts of a successful season would seep into my brain osmotically. Of course, the cruel irony is that the mid-’80s Mets are alive and well and living not far from me in Washington, DC, with an older and just-as-wise Davey Johnson at the helm. Johnson showed up in 1984 with a respectable...

Delaying Reality is FUN!

TweetWhat can you say? After another Opening Day win (the Mets have the best Opening Day record in baseball since their inception), the Mets sit undefeated and in first place in the NL East. Listen, we all know what’s in store for this team this year. Just for now, just for today, let’s just enjoy it while it lasts. Jon Niese reminded us how insane some fans and “experts...

Mets Look To Make It Two In A Row: Mets Lineup V. Padres April 3, 2013

The Mets take the field tonight against the San Diego Padres, looking to start the 2013 season 2-0. Matt Harvey will get the start as the Mets #2, looking to expand on last years. respectable partial rookie season. Ike Davis looks to make adjustments from a poor opening day performance (striking out 4 times), and get the offensive Mojo going. Tonight's lineup tonight is a mirror image of

Backman Praises D’Arnaud After Impressive Debut Last Night

Las Vegas manager Wally Backman had some nice things to say about Mets catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud after his impressive debut last night against Sacramento. In the 51′s season-opening 10-5 victory over the River Cats, the 25-year old prospect went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks, a career-high four runs scored and an RBI. “I think it’s just a matter of time before...

Series Preview: Miami Marlins vs New York Mets

Jose Fernandez will make the jump from A-Ball to the majors when he makes his MLB debut against the Mets on Sunday afternoon. The Mets begin their second series of the season against the new-look Miami Marlins today, in the first game of what will be a three-game set. The Marlins, for the second offseason in a row, blew up what they had and started over. Last winter was a little...

Scott Rice’s story and similarities to two other former MLB players

New York Mets LHP Scott Rice made his major league debut Monday against the San Diego Padres. The 31 year old pitched a scoreless 9th inning, striking out two finishing off the Mets 11-2 victory. Rice had signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training and won a job as a lefty specialist, beating out Robert Carson, who was sent to AAA Las Vegas. The more one...

Who Knew? Mets 2-0 Yankees 0-2 scary ain’t it ?

I am realist enough to know that the Mets are not going to win 162 games and the Yankees are not going to lose 162 games. But losing two in a row to your hated rivals can’t sit well this early with the Yankees who really need to get off to a good start injuries not withstanding. Could you imagine if George Steinbrenner was still alive now and this happened …a press relaease would...
