Found June 04, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas shut down Fresno, 8-0. Binghamton had the day off. St. Lucie dropped to Lakeland, 2-1.  Savannah had the day off. Prospect Pipeline Travis d’Arnaud was seen yesterday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York for follow up on his fractured toe. Travis was cleared to begin weight bearing rehabilitation, but will remain in a boot for the next week. After only two rehab appearances, Mets prospect Luis Mateo has found himself back on the DL this evening. Mateo, since returning from the DL on May 30th, has made two appearances. He allowed two hits in a scoreless inning on the 30th, but he ran into some trouble in his last outing on June 2nd. He allowed four runs off four hits, including a home run, and a walk. The unmistakable traits of Noah Syndergaard‘s blistering fastball were on display once again Monday — only the fourth time at Tradition Field — and his latest showcase for the St. Lucie Mets offered more promise for the future. Reaching...

Boom Or Bust: Cesar Puello, RF

CESAR PUELLO, RF BOOM OR BUST? Boom or Bust is a feature on our companion site MetsMinors.Net, where we ask our minor league writers to sound off on whether or not they think a particular Mets prospect will be a boom…or a bust. John B. Puello is an electrifying power hitter with some interesting tools.  Puello’s team leading seven home runs and 31 RBI’s (tied with Allan Dykstra...

How The Mets Landed Matt Harvey

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports has a must-read article on the events that led to the Mets decision to select Matt Harvey in the 2010 Draft. All the Mets’ key scouts and honchos at the time — from area scout Marlon McPhail all the way to then-GM Omar Minaya — endorsed Harvey, who has yet to lose in 12 starts for the 2013 Mets, a losing team. He’s 5-0 with a 2.17 ERA and 87 strikeouts...

Mets Minors Report 6/5: Syndergaard/Nimmo/Plawecki/Boyd Named All-Stars, Puello Facing Suspension

Last Night’s Quick Scores Las Vegas edged out Fresno, 6-5. Binghamton shut out Trenton, 8-0. St. Lucie was shutout by Lakeland, 5-0.  Savannah dropped Lexington, 9-2. Prospect Pipeline ESPN has included the names of the other 20 players believed to potentially be facing MLB discipline, and Mets top-hitting prospect Cesar Puello as well as Ex-Met Fernando Martinez are among...

Fried Rice: Has Collins Burned Out His Lefty Reliever?

If you didn’t know any better, you would think the Mets only had two relievers in their bullpen; closer Bobby Parnell and lefthander Scott Rice. On those rare occasions when the Mets need to protect a late lead, Parnell and Rice have been Terry Collins‘ first line of defense and his go-to guys. For Rice, it has led to an NL-leading 32 appearances. That puts the late-blooming...

Familia To Have Elbow Surgery Today, Expected To Miss 6-8 Weeks

(Updated) Mets have announced that RHP Jeurys Familia will undergo right elbow surgery today at the Hospital for Special Surgery to remove bone spurs and loose bodies. Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek will perform the operation. Familia was initially diagnosed with biceps tendinitis until being reexamined by team doctors yesterday, so this elbow surgery is kind of a surprise...

Looking to turn things around, the New York Mets drop a tough one to the Nats

Mets closer Bobby Parnell failed to secure a one-run lead as the Mets dropped the series opener versus the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Tuesday night. Parnell, who has been one of the few bright spots for the Mets this season, entered the contest in the ninth and was greeted by Ryan Zimmerman with a double off the right-center field wall.  Zimmerman advanced to third on a wild pitch...

D’Arnaud To Be Reevaluated By Team Doctors Today

Mets assistant GM John Ricco spoke to reporters and said that catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud is in New York this morning to be reevaluated by team doctors. D’Arnaud, who suffered a non-displaced fracture of his first metatarsal in April, is still wearing the protective boot. The goal today is that doctors will find his foot sufficiently healed so that he can stop wearing...

Ace, and the Case of the Missing Runs!

Quite a trend that’s come over the Mets: a top notch performance, and no run support.  It’s happened with Harvey several times, who has pitched better than his 5-0 record shows.  Hefner has only just picked up his first win.  I’m not going to sit here and say that he has earned an undefeated record, because he hasn’t.  But looking at his appearances this year, he has...

Collins Says That Nieuwenhuis Could Be On Track For Big League Return

I thought it was funny that after I wrote how Nieuwenhuis’ second home run on Tuesday would have been gone in any MLB park, that Terry Collins asked Wally Backman about Kirk’s home runs and said the following to reporters before last night’s game. “I talked to Wally today for quite a while,” Collins said. “He said they were legitimate. He didn’t care where he was playing...

MLB All-Star Voting - Early Results

With early returns in on the MLB All-Star voting, which will take place at Citi Field in Queen NY home of the New York Mets, there is plenty to laugh at.  This happens in every league with fan voting for these games but it is still fun to look at.  In the American League, things actually quite fair and only the outfield selections could really be in question.  But the National...

I Said Don't ...

Now don't get swept by the Marlins. — Metstradamus (@Metstradamus) May 31, 2013 I should know better than to put the whammy on my team. But if this team is susceptible to something as harmless as my whammies, then it has bigger problems. Bigger problems ... as in the guy the Mets acquired for his defense misplaying a fly ball to center field costing Matt Harvey...
