Nobody is going to mistake the 2012 New York Mets for a team of power hitters.  The clubs 55 homers on the season rank 24th in baseball and only one player has reached double-digit jacks for the year, Lucas Duda.  The 26-year-old lefty is in his third season and has proved to be the one reliable source of power for New York in 2012.

Duda’s eleven long balls lead the team, as do his 42 RBI, but with the way he has been hitting of late fans are hoping the Big Ox is just scratching the surface.

Duda has reached base safely in a career-high 22 straight games dating back to May 27th and has raised his average over 20 points since batting just .245 back on May 29th.

More importantly, the Dude has seemingly found his power stroke once again, having belted four homers in just 61 June at-bats.  It’s great to see David Wright remain consistent and Ike Davis showing signs of life, but from a power standpoint, New York is going to need Duda to keep producing in the middle of the line-up if they are going to have sustained success as the season wears on.  The team is 7-2 on the year in games in which Duda hit’s a long ball and while I’ll be happy to see him hit the 26 HR and 100 RBI that his numbers currently project out to, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I want to see #21 get his first 30 homer season.
