Mets have announced that RHP Jeurys Familia will undergo right elbow surgery tomorrow at the Hospital for Special Surgery to remove bone spurs and loose bodies.
Familia was initially diagnosed with biceps tendinitis yesterday and was examined by team doctors today, so this elbow surgery is kind of a surprise.
The starter turned reliever complained that he doesn’t feel any pain, but was unable to extend his arm fully in his delivery and has been on the disabled list since May 12.
Familia posted a 3.48 ERA in 10 1/3 innings pitched for the Mets this season.
There is no timetable for his return.
