St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Carlos Beltran will put his money where his mouth - and a former teammate's nose - is.
Beltran received a bill from New York Mets pitcher Jonathan Niese, who said he went through with a nose job at Beltran's prodding and offer to pay for it.
"Carlos and I were joking around about it, and he said he wanted me to get a new nose," Niese said. "Yeah, he’ll pay. I sent him the bill.“
Niese said he underwent the procedure more for health issues than vanity reasons. He said the surgery corrected a deviated septum, allowing him to breathe easier and lose 10 pounds because he has fewer difficulties while working out.
Beltran confirmed he received the bill and added that he would pay the tab when he sees Niese during spring training.
The veteran outfielder, who signed a two-year, $26 million contract with St. Louis in the offseason, stressed that his gesture was borne out of financial assistance.
