The Mets have recalled infielder Zach Lutz from Triple-A to replace him on the roster. Lutz was hitting .286 with seven home runs and 37 RBIs in 53 Pacific Coast League games. Original Post Lucas Duda has an injured side muscle, and will meet with team doctors at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, Terry Collins told reporters on Saturday. Duda has been dealing with soreness from yesterday’s game in Atlanta and when he arrived at Citizens Bank Park this morning for treatment, the pain continued and the decision was made to send him to New York. “He was pretty sore yesterday when the game was over and was still sore today,” Collins told reporters. As a result, Daniel Murphy will shift from second base and start at first base while Jordany Valdespin will get the start at second base. Collins added that Josh Satin will start at first base ...

Zach Lutz Will Join the Mets on Sunday

The New York Daily News is reporting that the New York Mets have placed 1B/LF Lucas Duda on the 15-day disabled list and have called up veteran Mets farmhand Zach Lutz. Lutz, 27, was hitting .286/.372/.481 in Las Vegas prior to getting the call. Many believed that Ike Davis was going to be set to rejoin the team with word of Duda’s injury, but the organization believes that the...

Mets’ Matt Harvey Should Start All-Star Game

The starting role for the All-Star Game is Matt Harvey’s for the taking. With three more starts for the New York Mets, including an audition for San Francisco and National League manager Bruce Bochy, should Harvey run the table and go into the break at 10-1 with an ERA close to 2.00, it is totally realistic. Unless Harvey tanks, he should get the ball. HARVEY: Should get All-Star...

The pros and cons for Jeremy Hefner

With Jonathon Niese going on the disabled list, the Mets’ decision on which pitcher to drop from the rotation was delayed. That’s good news for Jeremy Hefner and Shaun Marcum, the two leading candidates to be removed. Mets Short-Season Baseball Gets Underway

The Mets’ short-season affiliates got their seasons underway this past week. Those affiliates are, in order from most advanced to least, the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York-Penn League), the Kingsport Mets (Appalachian League), and the GCL Mets (Gulf Coast League). The Cyclones are at the short-season A class-level while both Kingsport and the GCL team are rookie level.  Though the...

Mets Bypassed Davis For Lutz Because Team Was Facing Three Left-Handers

I had two emails from readers asking me why the Mets elected to promote Zack Lutz rather than Ike Davis this weekend. The fact is that the Mets didn’t want to set David up for failure and with three lefties coming up in John Lannan of the Phillies, and John Danks and Chris Sale of the White Sox, they thought it best to leave Davis in Las Vegas where he can continue getting used...

Has Jeremy Hefner Been (Un)Lucky?

Jeremy Hefner pitched six innings of strong baseball in Philadelphia on Friday night to help propel the New York Mets to a 4-3 victory over their National League East rival Philadelphia Phillies. Hefner allowed three runs, two earned, on 10 hits while striking out six in the process. Friday’s start marked his sixth consecutive start in which he allowed three earned runs or less...

Mets 4, Phillies 3 The New York Mets beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 tonight at Citizens Bank Park to open their three game series. The Mets have won five of their last seven games. Like Father, Like Son: L.J. Mazzilli Off To Hot Start With Cyclones

Former Mets’ star Lee Mazzilli made the borough of Brooklyn his stomping grounds growing up. Abraham Lincoln H.S. in Coney Island was his home until the Mets drafted him right out of high school in 1973. Lee and L.J.
