Here are some Mets catching notes for the day…

First, according to this article, by Mike Puma of the New York Post, Josh Thole is planning on heading to Dallas within the next couple of weeks to begin working on his defense with the Mets’ organizational catching coordinator Bob Natal.  According to the article, ““It’s going to be about receiving the baseball,” Thole told The Post. “As I think it was well known, I had a bit of an issue early in the season with catching the baseball. I don’t want that, and I need to get back where I was previously.”

No offense to Josh, but that’s a whole bunch of obvious to most Mets fans, most of whom, I believe, will be happy to hear about his desire to improve defensively.  Especially considering Thole’s confidence in Natal, “Bob is just the type of guy who knows what I need,” Thole said. “If there’s something I need to make an adjustment on and I’m not quite sure I know what it is, Bob is the guy who knows how to get me back on track.”

In the meantime the Mets continue to have interest in, and have begun bringing in, other catchers with the intent of having them compete with Mike Nickeas for the back up job.  Here’s the latest:

It’s good to bring in competition for the catching position, but I feel like the names Met fans are hearing just aren’t sexy.  After the rumors of Luis Martinez, the Mets decided to go after another catcher who populated the Padres organization catching depth.  This time getting Rob Johnson, who is more of the same, a light-hitting, defensive oriented back up.  Here are his numbers:
