The Mets announced today that they have signed Southpaw Chuck James to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training. Wait… Who? Right now you’re probably thinking to yourself, “who in the world is Chuck James?” Well, to be honest, I was thinking the same exact thing until I read more about him. Basically, the Mets signed to add starting pitching depth that the Mets desperately need. I highly doubt he will make the big league roster–unless Johan Santana is not ready for Opening Day and there is no one else better than him available. This is the team’s release: “James, 30, split last season between Minnesota and Rochester (AAA) of the International League. James, 30, split last season between the Twins and their Triple A affiliate in Rochester. He appeared in eight games for Minnesota, posting a 6.10 ERA in 10.1 innings.
