Mets ink veteran righty Miguel BatistaIn an effort to add some depth to a very thin pitching staff, the Mets have signed veteran RHP Miguel Batista to a minor league deal, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. Batista who was pitching for the Cardinals earlier this season, was released late last month. The 40 year old righty pitched 29 1/3 innings for the Cardinals this year. During his time with the red birds he posting a 4.60 ERA, and was a little wild as he walked 19 batters. He continued to maintain velocity as he still throws in the low 90′s. Batista is very versatile and could be a decent addition to the Mets staff, since he could spot start and pitch out of the bullpen. During his career, he has started and closed games, along with pitching in long and middle relief. I like the move, and hope Sandy is able to find more helpful pieces as players begin to hit the waiver wire as the deadline approaches.
