Sandy Comments On The Reyes Negotiations
Here are the set of comments I take away from this brief interview..."The greater issue is just what effect it has on the relationship between the fans and the team and uh that's always a consideration. Very handful of players that fans identify and in our case Jose is one of those and we have to take that into account... it doesn't determine what we will or won'...
MMO Fan Shot: Smart Spending, Saving Money and Long Term Planning
It is said over and over again that the problem with the Mets is a combination of financial difficulties coupled with unwise spending and negligence in development of youth needed to build a winning franchise. There is some truth in all of this the only question seems to be in the perception of how bad and how much applies to each argument.
In the case of Bad contracts the usual...

The Miami Marlins’ preliminary offer to Jose Reyes was for six years, $90 million a source has told Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
In addition to that going for them, the story cited a source saying the potential of playing in a warm climate, which would lessen the risk to his hamstrings, as well as playing for Ozzie Guillen...
Mets Interested In Jason Marquis
The Mets have interest in signing Jason Marquis to replace Chris Capuano in their starting rotation, writes Ken Davidoff of Newsday. The Mets crossed Capuano off their list of targets due to his desire for a multiyear deal, we heard yesterday.
Marquis, 33, grew up in New York and has long expressed a desire to play for one of his hometown teams. Still, even with an apparent mutual...
Hanley Ramirez Not Pleased About Moving From Shortstop
According to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald, a source has told him that Hanley Ramirez is not at all pleased at the prospect of changing positions if the Marlins sign Jose Reyes and that the two shortstops are not the friends many portray them to be.
If Reyes signs with the Marlins, the belief is Ramirez will go to third. There is an outside chance that the Marlins could putâ€...
Dear Jerry Seinfeld: Jose Reyes is a terrible name for a dog
Jerry Seinfeld is a big New York Mets fan.
Jose Reyes has been with the Mets since 2003.
Under normal circumstances, it would then make sense that Seinfeld and his family want to name their new dog after the flashy shortstop.
But we're not enjoying a normal situation right now. Reyes is currently enjoying the freedoms of free agency and probably has a better chance of landing...
Gold Digging
To be uncommonly brief about it (and trust me, I plan to be more expansive on the topic in the very near future), congratulations to the New York Mets for getting it. They get that their 50th anniversary is a big deal, and they are making a big deal out of it. You can read the official details here and visit their dedicated site here, but for bringing Banner Day down from the attic...
Aggressive Marlins Could Make NL East Tough in ’12
The Nationals have slowly become the chic NL East sleeper, thanks to a series of impactful high-round draft picks (Stephen Strasburg, Drew Storen, Jordan Zimmermann, Bryce Harper), good trades (Wilson Ramos, Michael Morse) and a stable superstar leader in Ryan Zimmerman. But swiftly and loudly, the new-look Miami Marlins are trying to make a more immediate surge to the top...

Marlins Offer Reyes $90 Million Contract
The Marlins have showed they were indeed serious about landing a big-name free agent this winter before moving into their new stadium next season.
Citing an anonymous source, Fox Sports reported Monday night that the Marlins have offered Reyes a 6-year deal worth $90 million. If Reyes signs with Miami, it would represent the biggest contract in team history, bigger than the $70...
Sandy assured picks
MILWAUKEE — When the Mets decided against trading Jose Reyes during the season, they believed their fallback position if the shortstop left via free agency would be to receive high-end draft-pick compensation.
But draft-pick compensation is almost certain to be eliminated as part of a new labor agreement, which could be...
