The Mets have made another low risk signing. This one offers much less reward however. The Mets have signed 38 year old catcher Raul Chavez to a minor league deal. Chavez also gets an invite to Spring Training. Chavez did not play in the majors last season. He played for the Blue Jays' Triple A affiliate. Chavez hit .210 with three home runs and 24 RBI in 55 games. Chavez last played in the majors in 2009 with the Blue Jays. He hit .258 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 51 games. He has a career .231 batting average. It is unlikely that Chavez will make the major league roster and he will most likely serve as organizational filler.
