A Mets source told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe that the front office is still trying to get MLB to allow them to keep their first-round pick if they sign Michael Bourn.
They are still trying to determine whether they can convince Bourn to sign a potential backloaded deal and that they will go “all out on the compensation” if they know their pick will be protected.
In other words they will overpay if they have to as long as they can keep the pick.
Five years for Bourn???
Sounds like this still has legs. Stay tuned…

Richard Justice of MLB.com reported that the Mets will have little to no interest in signing Michael Bourn to a contract if they are unable to protect their first round pick.
The New York Mets have no interest in signing free-agent outfielder Michael Bourn if it means surrendering their top 2013 Draft pick, the 11th overall. If you’re wondering why a rebuilding team would invest big bucks in a 30-year-old outfielder regardless of the compensation, ...

Should the Cubs go after Michael Bourn
Michael Bourn rumors have been flying around all offseason, but he is still sitting there without a job for 2013. Bourn has had plenty of suitors, but talks with him have not even progressed to the stages where we were hearing constant...

The latest team to show interest in the speedy outfielder is the New York Mets, according to The Star-Ledger. Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said there is “ongoing discussion” with Bourn.

Mets using Wright as a Bourn Recruiter
Wright told The Post yesterday he has spoken with and exchanged texts

Michael Bourn remains a free agent, and Jim Bowden of ESPN
speculates that the Tampa Bay Rays, New York Mets and Seattle Mariners are the
three teams that make the most sense for the talented center fielder.

Going All-Out On Bourn Seems Like Business As Usual
What would you say the odds are that the Mets sign Michael Bourn? It’s been well documented that the Mets won’t make him an official offer unless they know that their first round pick is protected – you all know the story.
But it was also reported that the Mets are willing and prepared to go “all-out” to sign Bourn. I must confess that I don’t like the sound of that...

When will Bourn find a new team?
No free-agent position player of Michael Bourn's caliber has ever taken this long to find a new team. Not when fully healthy. Not in a true open market.
In 2007, outfielder Magglio Ordonez needed until Feb. 7 to sign with the Detroit Tigers, but only because the two sides had to work out complex language due to a pre-existing condition in Ordonez's left knee.
In 1987, victims...
