Apparently teams that have come away from their talks with the New York Mets regarding R.A. Dickey have acknowledged that the team’s asking price is extremely high.  First off, I think the following tweet from Andy Martino of the New York Daily News best explains that stance. #bbpBox_275869272276865025 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_275869272276865025 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Hi, I know it’s late. Here’s a Mets person on rivals’ notion asking price for Dickey very high.”It should be. He won the Cy Young.” Indeed. about 10 hours ago via TweetDeckReplyRetweetFavorite @MartinoNYDN Andy Martino Now, as for what exactly that price may be when it translates into prospects is anyone’s guess.  One thing is certain and that is that Wil Myers, a blue chip outfield prospect from the Kansas City Royals farm system, is about as top shelf as they get when it comes to unproven commodities. Baseball America lists Myers as the Royals #1 prospect and apparently, he is who the Mets have set their sights on (presumably in talks involving R.A. Dickey since the team is rumored to be in the market for a top of the rotation starter).  According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York: The Mets continue to aim high in talks with the Kansas City Royals. Multiple sources say the club is still pursuing Kansas City Royals outfield prospect Wil Myers. Myers, who turns 22 next week, hit a combined .314 with 37 homers and 109 RBIs in 522 at-bats last season between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha. “ Michael Baron of Metsblog.com wrote this of Myers earlier today: I still think it’s unlikely the Mets will be able to pry Myers for Dickey, and I don’t think it can get done straight up for Jon Niese. I’d do it if they can – in a heartbeat. Myers would be the “difference maker” Sandy Alderson said he’s seeking for his starting pitching, and so I agree with his strategy in aiming high for Myers.”

Wheeler and Niese Were Mentioned By Royals For Myers

Updated by Joe D. at 1:00 PM Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Royals actually talked to the Mets more about Niese and Wheeler in trade variations involving Myers – not Dickey, and adds that either way it’s not happening. Since rumors first floated about R.A.Dickey for Wil Myers I shot down that notion as nothing more than wishful thinking by overly enthusiastic Met...

The Age Factor: Reason Mets Are Reluctant To Sign Dickey, Is Why Teams Are Reluctant To Trade For Him

If GM Sandy Alderson spent as much energy trying to sign R. A. Dickey as he has trying to trade him, the contract would be done by now. Alderson told reporters in Nashville he’s seeking a “difference maker,” for Dickey, which means a power-hitting outfielder, preferably from the right side. A difference maker, by definition, would mean a proven commodity, as Alderson said he’s...
