According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets are close to signing LHP Gustavo Chacin to a minor league contract to play for Triple-A Buffalo. Chacin, 30, was released last week by the Houston Astros after posting a 5.13 ERA in nine starts and 18 relief appearances for their Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City. Although he logged no time in the major leagues this season, the former Blue Jays prospect made 44  appearances in relief for the Astros in 2010, and posted a 4.70 ERA with a 1.8750 WHIP in 27.1 innings pitched. The Bisons have been hit with big losses to their rotation this season after the Mets promoted Dillon Gee, and Jenrry Mejia and Boof Bonser were lost for the season due to arm injuries. Barring any disaster, Chacin will serve to help bolster their rotation or he could help out in the bullpen.
