David Wright's long-term future with the New York Mets may be unclear, but his status as one of the best hitters in franchise history is not. Wright tied Ed Kranepool for the most hits in franchise history with two knocks in Tuesday's 10-6 loss to the Pirates. After blasting a solo home run in the first inning at Citi Field, Wright matched Kranepool's record with a sinking line-drive single in the seventh. "Obviously, you'd like to do these types of things and win," Wright said. "But I'm proud of the fact that I was able to tie it and hopefully break it tomorrow." It is worth noting that Wright needed just 1,255 games and 4,717 at-bats to tie the record that Kranepool set in 1,853 games and 5,436 at-bats. Wright also leads the Mets in hits, doubles, walks, RBI and runs scored and ranks second in batting average and third in on-base and slugging percentages. "He truly is a great player," manager Terry Collins said. "This ...

From Left Field: Wright’s Homer Should (Hopefully) Seal His Future In NY

David Wright has been called “unclutch” during his Mets career. That may be the case overall, but that certainly wasn’t the case today, as ne belted an opposite-field, three-run homer that proved the difference in securing R.A. Dickey his 20th win of the season. It’s fitting that the Mets unofficial captain came through in a huge spot. The blast gave the Mets a three-run...

David Wright breaks Mets record for career hits

David Wright has the most hits in New York Mets history. The slugger reached on an infield single in the third inning Wednesday night against Pittsburgh for his 1,419th hit, snapping a tie with Ed Kranepool atop the team's career list. Wright pulled into second base thanks to a throwing error on the play and his achievement was shown on the Citi Field scoreboard. The Mets played...

David Wright Breaks All-Time Mets Record For Hits!

CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID WRIGHT! With an infield single in the bottom of the third inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates, David Wright surpassed Ed Kranepool to become the new all-time hits leader for the New York Mets. After breaking Kranepool’s mark with hit number 1,419 of his career, he added to that in his next at-bat with another single to put him at 1,420. Wright is...

Finishing Strong Could Give Mets Momentum For 2013

David Wright was in full salvage mode yesterday, both from a team and individual perspective, After a blazing first half in which he carried the Mets, he’s fallen off dramatically and with his fall so has his team. There have been numerous times during the Mets’ dreadful second half when they could have turned things around, but failed. Now mathematically eliminated and after...

David Wright sets Mets’ record

Long time New York Met David Wright, set the all-time hit record last night as the Mets went on to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0. David Wright came up in the third inning and hit a dribbler that would catapult Wright into first-place on the Mets all-time hits list.  It was career hit No. 1,419, for Wright and it  moved him ahead of Ed Kranepool on the franchise’s all-time...

Wright Sets Mets Hit Mark in Shutout Win

David Wright now stands alone on top of the Mets’ hits list and his goal to end the 2012 season on a high note is going pretty well so far. In the penultimate game at Citi Field this season, the Mets got seven shutout innings from Jeremy Hefner and their suddenly lively offense produced six runs to back him in a 6-0 win. The Mets have now won five of their last six games and have...

Wright takes over as Mets' franchise hits leader

It was about as ugly as a record-breaking hit can be. David Wright did not become the New York Mets' all-time hits leader with a booming home run or even a line-drive single. Instead, Wright finally passed Ed Kranepool with his 1,419th hit on a bleeder down the third-base line, which Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez could not glove in a 6-0 Mets victory. Wright later added a...

Wright becomes Mets' hits leader in 6-0 victory

NEW YORK -- As time passes, David Wright expects to describe his record-setting hit a little differently than the one that actually put him atop the New York Mets' hit list Wednesday night. The ball the New York Mets third baseman struck to become the franchise's leader was one of the weakest hits on a night when his team busted out offensively. While he had no choice...

Wright Becomes All-Time Hits Leader, Mets Win 6-0

David Wright broke the Mets all-time hits record, and Jeremy Hefner pitched seven scoreless innings in the Mets 6-0 win Jeremy Hefner came out of the gate and had his game plan in full swing, dispatching hitters quickly and coaxing weak contact at any given chance. As opposed to Tuesday night when Colin McHugh was hit hard, Hefner was the polar opposite, striking out seven in seven...

Will David Wright be traded in the offseason?

Mets 3rd baseman David Wright made history last night by getting two hits against the Pirates surpassing former 3rd baseman Ed Kranepool at 1,420 hits. The Mets will be playing their last home game of the season tomorrow afternoon and will this be David Wright's last game as a Met in Citi Field? My guess is he will be playing for the Mets on opening day next season over...

Pirates 10, Mets 6

NEW YORK -- David Wright tied the New York Mets' all-time hit record in style, driving in half of their runs Tuesday, but it wasn't enough as the Pittsburgh Pirates outslugged them. Pedro Alvarez homered and drove in four runs as the Pirates used a pair of big innings early to pick up a 10-6 win at Citi Field. Wright had three RBIs while hitting a homer and two-run single...
