Kevin Slowey received run support on Thursday but it was not enough to give him his first win of the year as the Miami Marlins fell to the Chicago Cubs by a final of 4-3.   Slowey was in a position to win entering the sixth inning but allowed the tying run.   The Marlins are now 5-17 on the season and continue to be able to string two or more wins together.   Despite only being 22 games into the year, Miami is already 10.5 games behind first in the division. Slowey has a 2.43 E.R.A after a six inning three run effort in this game but that quality start only kept him with the same win-less record.   Slowey struck out six and walked none while allowing five hits.  Prior to this start, Miami had given Slowey a total of one run of support in his four starts.   Chad Qualls and Mike Dunn kept the game tied in the seventh and eighth but in the ninth, the Cubs took the lead on closer Steve Cishek.   The loss was tagged to Cishek who is now 1-3 on the season. Miami did the most with his six hits, scoring three times including a run batted in each from Rob Brantly, Juan Pierre, and Giancarlo Stanton.    Pierre also swiped two bases, taking second and third in one time on the basepaths.   Those swipes give the Marlins’ lead-off hitter five on the season now.   With runners in scoring position, Miami was 2-11 as a team and left a combined nine men on base.  Once again, the inability to add on runs cost the Marlins in their eventual loss. On Friday, Miami will try and get a win with Wade LeBlanc scheduled to make the start.
