Back on July 4, the Miami Marlins acquired Carlos Lee from the Houston Astros in exchange for minor leaguers Matt Dominguez and Rob Rassmussen. Less than a month later, it appears the Marlins are doing whatever they can to ship Lee out of town.

Reports have surfaced that leading up to baseball’s trade deadline, Miami had a deal in place to ship Lee to the New York Yankees in exchange for $1 million. The veteran refused to waive his no-trade clause, so the trade died.

The Marlins also offered Lee to the Baltimore Orioles, but the teams couldn’t come to an agreement.

After making such a bold move to get Lee in early July, it’s kind of hilarious that the Marlins are almost immediately trying to flip him. It shows just how much of a mess Miami’s baseball team is right now.

Lee may not pass through waivers, since basically his entire contract is being covered by the Astros. So a team that needs a power-hitting righty could put in a claim on him.

The Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays could have interest, and the Yankees could also take another shot at him.

But the Marlins are in full-on dump mode after it appeared they were going to be contenders this year after their offseason spending spree.
