First, it was Jenny Dell. Could her soul-mate be next? Reports are surfacing that the Miami Marlins are "interested" in a deal for Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks. Back before Christmas, FenwayNation reported on a possible trade for Giancarlo Stanton that placed Middlebrooks as the Boston centerpiece (along with a few prospects). At this point, however, it's unclear whether Miami really wants to give up the young and talented Stanton. This probably won't go down—but depending on whether Stephen Drew is back—Middlebrooks could be on the move somewhere.

Report: Red Sox Offered Drew Two-Year Deal

Finally? ESPN.com's Jim Bowden reported yesterday that the Red Sox have offered Stephen Drew a two-year deal. The rest beyond that is unclear. So, maybe this is a rumor. Maybe Drew didn't accept. Maybe he'll go to the Yankees or the Mets. But, if the Sox did extend an offer, it shows that they're ready to move on with the team they have and does Drew want to...

Vote: Will Stephen Drew Be A Member Of The Red Sox In 2014?

Stephen Drew is one of the most notable players remaining on the free-agent market as spring training approaches. The veteran shortstop spent the 2013 season with the Boston Red Sox and provided a spark in the lineup and a good glove in the field, but he rejected the team’s $14.1 million qualifying offer to hit the open market at the start of the offseason. Drew hasn’t found...

Report: Stephen Drew Received Two-Year Offer From Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington has said multiple times this offseason that the team has maintained an open dialogue with shortstop Stephen Drew and his agent, Scott Boras. The details of a potential reunion get hazy beyond that. ESPN.com’s Jim Bowden reported Monday that Drew has received a two-year offer from the Red Sox, although it’s unclear when the offer was...

Big Papi ready for a ‘monster season’

Boston Red Sox slugging designated hitter David Ortiz is the subject of quite a few contract rumors: one-year extension, multi-year extension, “moving on” after 2014, and more. While we do not know yet what deal Ortiz will sign beyond this coming season, we do know one thing: “Big Papi” is in town for 2014, and as he tweeted on February 3, he is ready for a “monster season”...

Sox Are 5th Highest In International Spending

According to an analysis by the authoritative Baseball America, the Red Sox spent the fifth highest amount of money on international amateur players in 2013. Only the Rangers, Cubs, Dodgers and Indians spent more on foreign amateurs—with Boston shelling out $3.98 million over that period. Clearly, the international make-up of Red Sox rosters over the last decade has dramatically...

The person confirmed an agreement to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the Marlins hadn't announced a deal. Baker batted .279 with 11 home runs and 21 RBIs in 74 games for Texas last season. The Marlins...

Jerry Remy will return to the broadcast booth

Some may consider this “old news” by now, but announcer Jerry Remy has decided to return to the Red Sox broadcast booth for 2014. After 26 years, even an event such as what has happened to his family is not always a strong enough reason to pull someone away from the job that he or she loves. What is that event? Remy’s son, as Remy reminds us in this interview posted on Boston...

Met Still Have A Shot At Drew?

Another week goes by and question remain about the fate of free agent shortstop, Stephen Drew.  Seemingly linked to him all winter long, the Mets last week downplayed the likelihood of upgrading shortstop position.  The seem to believe that Drew will find a better opportunity elsewhere for more money than they are comfortable committing. While that still may be true, there is a...
