One is the Loneliest Number:
Many in this city have been clamoring for Wil Nieves to get more playing time over Miguel Montero, and it looks like many of us will get our wish. Montero is not in the lineup for the second straight night and now we know why. According to Jack Magruder, Montero tweaked his back on a swing in the cage before Tuesday’s game and will see a doctor.
BEST OF MAXIM
PHOENIX -- Wade Miley bruised Thursday, but he did not break.
Miley treated the hard liner off his right knee in the second inning like a mosquito bite, shrugging off the Cubs the same way in a 3-1 victory at Chase Field fueled by Aaron Hill's home run, double and two RBIs.
Miley won for the third time in his past four starts while continuing a strong run that can be traced...
PHOENIX -- When you're in an offensive funk, you try things, Kirk Gibson said before Tuesday's game.New things. If the timing is right and something sparks, the way Sean Burroughs' unexpected home run in Washington did two years ago, you are off and running."Get your mojo back," Gibson said, "and you are on your way."The D-backs took a step in that...
No matter how many teams we keep hearing from the local media that the Diamondbacks have no interest in Jake Peavy, the rumor just won’t die. The latest report, from the Chicago Tribune, claims the Diamondbacks will scout Peavy’s Thursday start against the Tigers.
The Arizona Diamondbacks' dormant offense broke out Tuesday night.
A.J. Pollock doubled, tripled and drove in three runs, and Patrick Corbin scattered four hits over six innings to help the Diamondbacks beat the Chicago Cubs 10-4.
''It's definitely good to get the offense going,'' Pollock said. ''We know we have it. For whatever reason it's kind...
On Thursday, Arizona was one of eight teams (the Pirates, A’s, Giants, Phillies, Rangers, Rockies and Cardinals being the others) who were on hand for Brian Wilson’s workout in Los Angeles, according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.
During the Chicago Cubs-Arizona Diamondbacks game on Tuesday, these two fans attempted to turn a snorkel into a beer bong. It didn’t end up working too well because they didn’t end up pouring too much beer down the snorkel before the guy pulled away. My guess is the opening of the snorkel wasn’t big enough for it to work, but major props to them for trying anyways.
This time instead of having their usual extra inning magic, the D-Backs lost to the Cubs, 7-6 in 12th innings.
Although they couldn't come through late in their last game, the Diamondbacks have shown the ability to score runs against the Cubs. They could be primed for another big day against struggling Carlos Villanueva on Thursday night when they try to earn a split of this four-game series at Chase Field.
Paul Goldschmidt hit a three-run home run and Cody Ross added a game-tying sacrifice...
After a couple weeks of offensive struggles, the Diamondbacks finally jumped on an opposing pitching staff and they would go on to cruise for an easy 10-4 win over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night in front of a sparse Chase Field crowd.
The Diamondbacks weren’t a whole lot better at delivering big hits on Thursday night but they came up with just enough of them to support LHP Wade Miley’s strong outing and come away with a four-game series split with the rebuilding Chicago Cubs.
Miley gave up just one run in 7 2/3 innings and Aaron Hill homered and doubled to lead the Diamondbacks to a win at Chase Field. Miley...

The Arizona Diamondbacks have struggled against the San Diego Padres, but they've been winning series at home in this NL West matchup.
That could be difficult this time around with the Padres improving outside San Diego.
Arizona continues its push for the NL West lead in Friday night's series opener.
After getting swept in their last series against San Diego (46-57) from...
PHOENIX -- Wil Nieves could not get on the field in June, going 25 days between starts in one stretch.
Things have been a little different recently, with Nieves making his fourth straight start Friday while the Diamondbacks remained cautious with Miguel Montero's sore lower back.
Nieves, the D-backs' backup catcher, has handled the ins and outs this season with the professionalism...
