Mike Lieberthal, long-time Phillies catcher from 1994 until 2006, has been inducted into the Wall of Fame located in Ashburn Alley at Citizens Bank Park.  Mike holds the Phillies record in most games caught (1,139), and all time home runs by a catcher (149).

Lieberthal ended his career in 2007 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite never making the playoffs in his career, Mike will be remembered as playing with the Phillies during their transitioning period between the 1993 and 2008 World Series runs.

Tonight's game sure was a pitching duel between former Phillie Kyle Lohse and righty ace Roy Halladay.  Doc lasted eight innings, allowing just one run, a home run, to Carlos Beltran in the top of the second inning.  He struck out eight batters, walking none, as 72 of his 99 pitches were strikes.

The Phillies answered back in the latter half of the second inning.  Ryan Howard led off the inning with a double on a line drive to right fielder Carlos Beltran, his third of the season.  Right fielder Domonic Brown, who moved to left field in the ninth inning, followed with a single off of Kyle Lohse to score Howard from second.  Lohse lasted seven innings (101 pitches, 69 strikes), giving up just one run while walking two batters and striking out seven.

Replacing Lohse with left-handed rookie Barret Browning in the eighth inning proved to be costly for Mike Matheny and the St. Louis Cardinals.  Jimmy Rollins led off the inning with a single on a line drive to left fielder Matt Holliday.  Juan Pierre followed with a sacrifice bunt, advancing Rollins to third after he had moved to second base on a called balk.  Then came Chase Utley.  Having never seen Browning before, Utley was able to make enough contact, a lot to be exact, to get the ball deep over the right center field fence to secure the Phillies the lead.  That was his eighth home run of the season, and the 196th of his career. Utley has now passed Bobby Abreu on the all-time Phillies home run list, gaining the sole spot of 9th place.

Jonathan Papelbon shut the door in the ninth relieving Doc, despite giving up a one-out double to Allen Craig, his 22nd of the season, and a two-out single to Carlos Beltran which advanced Craig to third base.  Papelbon now has 25 saves in 2012, six shy of his 2011 total with the Boston Red Sox.

Cliff Lee (2-6) will take the mound Saturday evening against Jake Westbrook (11-8) and the St. Louis Cardinals.

Attendance: 43,122 (4th consecutive non-sellout).
