Texas Rangers catcher Mike Napoli is slowly recovering from stretched ligaments in his left ankle, which he suffered during Game 6 of the World Series. Since twisting the ankle awkwardly on the second base bag in St. Louis, Napoli has not been able to run. That hasn’t changed, but the Rangers and Napoli think he will be ready for spring training.
“It’s getting stronger,” Napoli said. “There was no reason for me to push it, but it’s getting stable. Dr. [Keith] Meister looked at it and we’re on track. I’ll be ready for spring training.”
After being traded to Texas during the 2011 season, Napoli quickly became arguably the most popular player on the team. Soon after he arrived, Texas fans began chanting “Na-po-li!” continuously while he was at bat and this continued through the World Series.
