The Red Sox have plenty of needs all over as the free agent market opens this MLB offseason, but they also have plenty of money to spend and options of where to spend it.
With Adrian Gonzalez gone, the Sox are looking for a long-term plan at first base. That could mean a veteran holdover until a young player comes up, or Boston could look into the likes of 31-year-old Mike Napoli, whose ability at both first base and behind the plate could give the club versatility for years to come.
The outfield will be a major focus for Boston management, which needs to lock up its corner positions. While the club would like to re-sign Cody Ross, it will also need a left fielder, and the free agent market has plenty of options for multiyear deals as well as single-year holdovers until Boston can bring up some young talent. What to do with center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury -- who has just a year left on his contract and will likely want a big, long-term deal -- will also affect the ...

The Angels and right fielder Torii Hunter have made little progress in contract talks, and the chances of the team extending a 13.3-million qualifying offer to the right fielder by Fridays deadline appear slim, according to a person familiar with negotiations but not authorized to speak publicly about them.
Its kind of disappointing, but what are you going to do? Hunter said by...
While teammate Josh Hamilton received a qualifying offer from the Texas Rangers, Mike Napoli did not. A qualifying offer would have been around $13.3 million. The Rangers made the decision that they didn't feel Napoli was worth that. This does not mean he won't return to Texas. It simply means, the Rangers will try to sign him for less.
According to Mac Engel...
The Angels, as expected, did not make a 13.3-million qualifying offer to Torii Hunter by Fridays 2 p.m. deadline, a decision that does not preclude the veteran right fielder from returning to Anaheim but clearly reduces the chances.
The Angels can continue to negotiate with Hunter, but so can 29 other teams. After hitting .313 with 16 home runs and 92 runs batted in last season...
If you go to Kevin Youkilis' Baseball-reference.com's player page, one of the nicknames given there is the, "Greek God of Walks." The moniker, of course, goes back to the Moneyball story and Billy Beane who had his eye on Youkilis back in his minor league days. And then Youkilis burst on the scene for the Boston Red Sox in 2006 and was a major part of that team...
The New York Yankees have interest in free agent outfielder Torii Hunter, tweets Mark Feinsand of The New York Daily News.
Hunter, 37, may have lost a step since he won nine Gold Glove awards as one of the league’s elite center fielders, but he has proven he can still be a good fielder since moving to right field for the Los Angeles Angels.
He can still swing the bat as well, hitting...
The New York Yankees are interested in veteran outfielder Torii Hunter according to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News. He adds that since the Angels are unlikely to offer Hunter a qualifying offer he wouldn't cost the Yankees a draft pick.
Back in September, we learned that Hunter wanted to stay in Anaheim, but with a crowded outfield the Angels are probably going to let...
The Boston Red Sox should make runs at free agent outfielder
Nick Swisher, catcher/first baseman Mike Napoli and late-inning reliever Ryan
Madson, according to Matt Pepin of the Boston Globe.
Pepin believes the offseason goal of general manager Ben
Cherington is not to make the Red Sox instantly into a powerhouse, but instead
to get them back to the 85-90 wins plateau...
Kevin Youkilis is famous for his unorthodox batting stance.
First, former Red Sox shortstop Mike Aviles poked fun at his ex-teammate's stance. Turns out, Angels reliever LaTroy Hawkins' daughter, Troi, is the latest to try her hand at imitating Youkilis.
If you compare it to Youkilis' stance, it's a pretty spot-on impression. Hawkins took the chance to post the...
Here are the latest rumors regarding Free Agent in the Major Leagues:
– The Angels' top priority this offseason is to re-sign right handed pitcher Zack Greinke according to Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com. They will face some fierce competition though, since the Rangers are interested in him also.
– Even though the White Sox declined Kevin Youkilis' option, they would...
As you may have already heard, the Angels have opted against giving outfielder Torii Hunter a $13.3 million qualifying offer. After five years with Anaheim and becoming a fan favorite and an integral part of the Angels’ clubhouse, Hunter is now a free agent.
Last night, veteran pitcher Dan Haren also became a free agent despite a last minute attempt to trade him and his team...
The November 5th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Dipoto talks about the Haren non-trade, Hunter not given a qualifying offer, Bourjos will start in the outfield and much more...

A year ago, the free agent of free agents, Albert Pujols, was available to any team in baseball. OK, realistically he was only available to the few that could afford to offer him an insane amount of money, but nonetheless...This year's 1B crop is riddled with mediocrity and high-stakes gambles at the top-end.
1. Mike Napoli - Napoli is also my top-ranted catcher and, in my...
