Throughout the first half of the 2012 MLB regular season, one of the hottest topics has been the rookies. Phenoms Bryce Harper and Mike Trout were both called up in late April, and neither has disappointed. We all know that Mike Trout’s numbers are nearly unheard of from anyone, let alone a rookie. He deserves all the credit in the world, and I think he’ll continue to be in the limelight with the continued success he’ll undoubtedly have. Come September, Trout will win the AL Rookie of the Year award (barring injury). Heck, if the Angels are able to make a comeback and win the AL West, he could even win the MVP award. But today I’m here to talk about the other star rookie: Bryce Harper. Mike Trout (left) & Bryce Harper (right) enjoying the All Star Game festivities (Chicago Tribune)   Harper has gotten tons of attention since he was a teenager. Oh wait, he’s still a teenager. At 19 years old, he’s already been in the spotlight for a handful of years now. And after getting called...

Video: Bryce Harper explains his gold cleats

While you're sitting around trying to figure out what the hell to do with your life without baseball on the TV during the interminable All-Star break, here's the video in which Bryce Harper explains his (apparently LeBron-esqe?) gold cleats: (Screencap via CSNWashington.com) Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Bryce Harper to Be Immortalized as Garden Gnome by Former Minor League Team

Bryce Harper has been called many things -- "Chosen One," a phenom, Rookie of the Year material, even future Hall of Famer -- but a garden gnome has certainly not been one of them. Until now. As part of the Bryce Harper Hall of Fame weekend in early August, the Single-A Hagerstown Suns will be offering garden gnomes in the outfielder's likeness to the first 1,000 fans...

Bryce Harper's mustache is back.

Welcome back baseball, and welcome back to Bryce Harper's mustache. Harper experimented with the stache several times in the minors, and it never turns out so good. Well, it's back for another go. @BHarpersstache on Twitter must be thrilled. Harper and his stache caught the Marlins napping in the first inning and stole third base... The Bryce Harper Garden Gnome

While you're sitting around waiting for real, live, baseball to return tonight -- and for news about Luca Giolito signing -- enjoy the screencap above of the long-awaited Bryce Harper Garden Gnome. The Hagerstown Suns are giving away this beauty on August 4th. (via DC Sports Bog, which has a better image from the Suns.) Befriend Nats Enquirer on Facebook. Follow on Twitter.

Bryce Harper garden gnome looks nothing like Bryce Harper (Picture)

The Hagerstown Suns, a Single-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are honoring former franchise star Bryce Harper with a garden gnome giveaway next month, but if I’m Harper, I’d have mixed feelings about the giveaway. The image above shows the gnome the team is planning to give away to the first 1,000 fans in attendance for their August 4 game. As you can see, the gnome...

Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout, New York Yankees' Robinson Cano Favored to Win AL MVP

Only two players in Major League Baseball history have won both the Rookie of the Year and MVP awards in the same season. Of course Boston fans know one of them: outfielder Fred Lynn in his memorable 1975 campaign. The other was Seattle’s Ichiro Suzuki in 2001. Current Los Angeles Angels rookie outfielder Mike Trout could make it a trio as he is now the 5-2 co-favorite at Bovada...

MLB 2012: Bryce Harper Greatest Thing to Happen to Baseball's First Half

Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals has quickly become one of the most compelling young players in sports. The basics of Harper are simple. He’s blessed with the perfect body for baseball at 6’3” and 225 pounds, and he earned his GED in 2009 after his sophomore year of high school. In that same year, Harper was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated...

MLB 1st Half Questions

Who do you believe have been the MVP's of the 1st half? For the Al, my pick is relatively easy, as I believe Mike Trout has been the best player in baseball since his callup. Despite missing the Angels first 22 games, Trout leads the AL in WAR by half a win. Trout also ranks 1st in a variety of other categories including wRC+, batting average, and wOBA. He also has played...

MLB All-Star Game draws lowest national rating ever

Despite the overnight rating giving Major League Baseball and Fox hope that this year's All-Star Game would be an improvement in the ratings compared to last year's game, the final viewership numbers returned a 6.8 rating and 10.9 million viewers, which are the lowest of all-time for the game. The previous lows were 11 million viewers and a 6.9 rating set all the...

Angels-Yankees Preview

It's surprising that Derek Jeter leads the league in hits at the age of 38. The fact that 20-year-old Mike Trout is leading the AL batting race is probably more surprising. The New Jersey-born Trout will make his first appearance at Yankee Stadium on Friday night when the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees open a three-game set. Despite an age that would suggest he'...

2012 MLB All-Star Game

[Box Score] [HBT] [ESPN Diary] -It wasn’t a banner All Star debut for Bryce Harper. Still, the gold cleats and a couple mighty hacks off Jered Weaver and company was good to see. VIDEO -Chipper Jones walked off into the sunset with his single and his win. His pre-game speech was a memorable one, the NL clearly dominated for Chipper. -Mike Trout singled, walked, stole a couple...

My Mid-Season Awards

Just an obligatory annual post while I'm obligatorily watching the All-Star Game: [platoonadvantage] American League MVP: Mike Trout It's worth noting that this is all a product of approximately the last three weeks: he's been very good (at least) since day one, but starting with his 4-for-4 game on June 19, Trout hit .389/.432/.634 to close out the first half. He...

AL Postseason Predictions

AL West: Even though the Rangers have a four game lead over Los Angeles, the Angels will take over fist place in the AL West as well as finish with the best record in baseball. Their hitting has finally come around, which is dangerous for opposing pitchers everywhere. The Angels have been virtually unstoppable since Mike Trout was called up. Look for them to ride the spark he provides...
