The reigning American League Rookie of the Year raised a few eyebrows this week after showing up to spring training camp with a little extra bagged. No, it wasn't of the luggage variety, either.Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout reportedly tipped the scales at 240 pounds this week after being weighed in around 210 last spring. The initial reports claim that the extra weight isn't just muscle, either.Angeles beat writer Mike DiGiovanna wrote that the 21-year-old has a body more like an NFL fullback now rather than the running back body he sported one year ago. This has some fantasy baseball nerds concerned on how the added bulk may affect Trout's production, especially on the base paths and on defense."You know, my weight fluctuates," Trout said during a pres. "During the course of Spring Training, I'll lose probably five to 10 pounds. So, where I need to be to start the year, I felt like coming in heavier and then getting down my weight to start the year. I know where I need to be."The New Jersey native took the major league landscape by storm in '12 while batting .326 with 30 homers, 83 RBI, and a whopping 49 stolen bases. His stellar rookie campaign earned him an All-Star nod, a Silver Slugger Award, and a runner-up finish in the MVP voting. But some are worried that the freak athlete may be in for the dreaded "sophomore slump" in his second full season in the bigs. The extra weight he reportedly packed on isn't going to lessen their worries, either.Via Sporting News
