Tigers manager Jim Leyland insisted last week that Miguel Cabrera's MVP candidacy will be hurt by a certain "Wonderboy." He's right, but that shouldn't stop us from recognizing the greatness that Cabrera continues to show. Granted, Cabrera has never been and never will be an elite defender, especially since he willingly made a leap across the diamond to play a much more difficult position once the Tigers signed Prince Fielder in the offseason. But the guy can straight up rake, and his consistency at the dish is something we need to appreciate even more so than we already do. Until...

Year after year, Cabrera continues to mash

MINNEAPOLIS It's scary to think of what Miguel Cabrera has accomplished by age 29.The slugger on Wednesday became the first player in Detroit Tigers history to hit at least 30 home runs in five straight seasons. By belting a solo homer in the Tigers' 5-1 win over the Twins, Cabrera has now surpassed 30 homers in eight of his 10 seasons in the majors.Following Wednesday&...

If Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young Were Cats

I realize this is a semi-outdated (but, is it?) low blow that isn’t quite suited for a respectable blog. However, it is also hilarious. Happy Tuesday! Jeff

Cabrera and Fielder forget secret handshake

Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder have been spending too much time in the batting cage and not enough time working on their handshake.  It showed Wednesday following Cabrera’s first inning home run off the Twins’ Cole De Vries. In the last two weeks, the two have combined for nine dingers, 29 RBIs and a batting average over .340.  Stay in the cages, boys.

Backed by Miguel Cabrera’s 2 RBI’s, Detroit Tigers Cruise to Series Win Over Minnesota Twins

Considering where things seemed to be heading just two days ago, the Detroit Tigers would have excitedly taken a .500 road trip if given the chance. A big day by Miguel Cabrera and more clutch pitching by Max Scherzer provided … Continue reading →

Scherzer, Cabrera command Tigers past Twins

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Miguel Cabrera became the first player in Tigers history to reach 30 home runs in five straight seasons and Max Scherzer threw seven scoreless innings for Detroit in a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Cabrera also singled in the fifth off Cole De Vries (2-4) to push his majors-leading total to 103 RBIs. His opposite-field solo shot in the first...

Tigers 5, Twins 1

Miguel Cabrera became the first player in Tigers history to reach 30 home runs in five straight seasons and Max Scherzer threw seven scoreless innings for Detroit in a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. Cabrera also singled in the fifth off Cole De Vries (2-4) to push his majors-leading total to 103 RBIs. His opposite-field solo shot in the first inning put the Tigers...

Tigers' Leyland doesn't have contract for next year -- does that matter?

On Aug. 8, 2011, a day the Tigers did not play and the logical time to make the announcement, they revealed the re-signing of president/CEO/GM Dave Dombrowski to a new four-year deal and Jim Leyland to a one-year extension of his expiring contract. Thursday, another day the Tigers did not play, came and went with Leyland still working on that same deal and no word about next season...

Tigers 8, Twins 4

Miguel Cabrera became the first player to reach 100 RBIs this season with a run-scoring single and Doug Fister pitched eight strong innings for the Detroit Tigers in an 8-4 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night. Fister (7-7) did not allow an earned run and struck out seven to win for the third time in four starts. The Tigers overcame a bad defensive inning to end a three...

GIFcap: Miguel Cabrera & Prince Fielder Confused On How To Celebrate, Decide To Hug It Out

Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder are so good they’re able to turn an awkward mess of a celebration into a funny one

Fister pitches 8 strong innings for Tigers in win

Game 2012.118: Tigers at Twins

Detroit Tigers, 62-55, 2nd place, 2 back. Doug Fister didn’t disappoint, and despite a carnival of a 3rd inning, and Gene Lamont being A Great 3rd Base Coach, the Tigers ended their 3-game losing streak.  Cabrera reached the century mark in RBIs, and Dirks hit one out, which I’m still trying to figure out, because both he and the pitcher are lefties, and I didn’t think that...

Pitching woes cause Tigers' 1-5 slump

Pitching is the beginning, the middle and the end, Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland likes to say. Over the last week, it's largely been the end for Detroit. The Tigers, who have resumed struggling on the road in recent weeks, have derailed a resurgence by winning just one game of their last six, including Monday's 9-3 loss to the Twins at Minnesota. And it's all...

Thursday Morning Cram Session, 8/15

Melky Cabrera.  Melky.  Cabrera.  Dude.  What the hell, man?  What the hell were you thinking? What a horrible, stupid, immature, and unforgivable mistake.  To test positive for "PE"Ds is one thing, but to do so as the 2nd best hitter on a probable playoff team is quite another.  It's a mistake that could wind up sinking the Giants' season and Melky'...

Second Guessing of Leyland Not Always Fair (or Accurate)

Russell Martin, a good baseball player having a bad year, almost poisoned the Tigers earlier this week. Martin, the New York Yankees catcher, is hitting below .200 for the season—well below his career mark (going into this year) of .272. But despite his failure to get a hit rate of over 80 percent, Martin shot the hearts of Tigers fans into their throats on Tuesday night. It was...
