The Milwaukee Brewers signed veteran infielder Cesar Izturis to a minor-league contract and have extended an invitation for him to join the club for camp this spring. The 31-year-old switch hitter has played 11 seasons in the majors and the last three with the Baltimore Orioles. Last season Izturis only played in 18 games and batted .200 in 33 at-bats due to injuries. To get a better idea of what he is offensively capable of, the following are his 2010 statistics: At-Bats Runs Hits HR RBI SB BB SO BA 2010 473 42 109 1 28 11 25 53 0.230 Clearly, Milwaukee is not signing Izturis for his bat but rather for his glove. After 11 seasons he still continues to be an excellent defensive infielder which is something the Brewers desperately need off the bench. Izturis mainly plays shortstop but can also field at second and third base. In 603 defensive chances he had 212 putouts, 382 assists and committed only nine errors for an impressive .985 fielding percentage during the 20...

Top 15 Prospects: Milwaukee Brewers

Pitching is definitely the strength of the Milwaukee Brewers system. The organization has amassed an impressive group of arms in just the past two seasons. The club scored on two pitchers – Tyler Thornburg and Jimmy Nelson – in 2010 that many thought would crash and burn as starters in pro ball after flip-flopping between the rotation and bullpen in college. They then...

Merry Christmas from John Axford

I actually think one of my favorite things about Milwaukee Brewers closer John Axford isn't the award-winning mustache he cultivated throughout this past season...it's that he has a pretty good sense of humor about himself. Can you think of another pro athlete on Twitter that would "Elf" himself and share the results to his 38,000 closest friends?I can't.Click...

Betancourt returns to Royals with 1-year deal

Yuniesky Betancourt is back with the Kansas City Royals after agreeing to a one-year contract. The deal was announced Tuesday. Betancourt, who played for the Royals from 2009-10, started at shortstop for the NL Central champion Milwaukee Brewers last season, batting .252 with 13 homers and 68 RBIs. Kansas City has Alcides Escobar at shortstop, so Betancourt will provide versatility...

Why Teams May Be Hesitant to Sign Prince Fielder

As much as Prince Fielder hates to admit it he will always be linked to his father, Cecil Fielder. Both players hit with tremendous power and racked up RBIs. Prince is clearly the better baseball player by far and away but over a three year stretch his father was the best in the business. There are probably several reasons why Prince has yet to sign with a baseball team such as years...

Prince Fielder takes center stage

Prince Fielder is the last high profile free agent left on the market. Pujols, Wilson, Reyes, and now Darvish have all found new homes. Now Prince and his agent Scott Boras take baseball’s center stage in the search for a new fifedom. The Cubs interest in Fielder remains unclear. The Mariners have reportedly make an initial offer to the slugging first baseman. The Texas...
