What's the News?
As if you couldn't have guessed it, the Clippers are sporting the International League Batter of the Week. You have two guesses and the first two don't count. Okay it's Carlos Santana.

In other Clipper news, they've activated Jeremy Sowers from the inactive list or whatever it is he was on. They've also transferred Yohan Pino to Mahoning Valley, which means he's still with the club, just probably not pitching until his next turn in the rotation. It won't belong to Sowers, but the plan is unclear yet. It looks like he will pitch against Louisville this weekend from the bullpen and the team will make another move to get Pino back on the active roster.

COLUMBUS
I hope you caught the the fantastic win for the Columbus Clippers last night on STO. The Clippers won in extra innings 4-3 off a Chris Gimenez home run.

Loved watching the game, got to get a good look at some players in game situations. Let's start with Carlos Santana.

Only went 0-3 with two walks, one being an intentional to load the bases in the ninth. It gave a chance to Shelley Duncan who would single in the game tying run. The one deep fly he hit to center field sounded like a home run. Carlos is definitely one of those few players that has that "different sound" you hear of when people say "the ball makes a different sound off his bat." It really does with him.

Did you see him throw out that runner? It was a strike 'em out throw 'em out situation and he absolutely gunned Wilkin Castillo down.

Gimenez hit the home run and that was fantastic for him. Chris is a great person so you cheer for him to get on track. He's only hitting .154, but it was his second home run and this one came in a good spot.

The top of the lineup was very good in this one. Two straight times both Jason Donald and Trevor Crowe got hits to get on base. Crowe got a third hit to really get on track.

Pitching wise... Carlos Carrasco was on the mound and let me say this.

There are times where this kid looks unstoppable. There are other times in which I just can't figure him out. He walked five, the only EARNED run was a solo-shot to a hot hitting Roger Dorn... I mean Daniel Dorn... He struck out two hitters in the first inning and then only two more the rest of the game.

I mean I don't know, it is up and down with him. He gave up only one earned, but in the end it was his error that caused the other two runs, so he has no one to blame but himself.

Hector Ambriz was on the mound for another "rehab" stint and I can definitely see why the Indians are prolonging this whole thing. The kid can bring the heat as a reliever. Seriously the ball was popping that glove big time. He's got some power to him. I wouldn't be opposed to giving him a shot if he goes out a few more times in Columbus and puts up zeros. He struck out two in his inning.

Columbus starts a quick two-game series against the Toledo Mudhens before hitting the road, Hector Rondon is on the mound for the Clippers tonight.

AKRON
After a two game absence, Beau Mills returned to the lineup to help lead Aeros to the Eastern League leading fifth win. Problem is two other teams also have five wins. Akron won 5-2 over Trenton and Zach Putnam picked up his first win of the year.

Putnam was as solid as solid can be, going five innings and giving up an unearned run off three hits and no walks. He also struck out five and the one run that scored under his watch got on with an error, stole second, and advanced to home after a sac-fly and ground out.

Another rocky appearance from Omar Aguilar as he recorded just two outs before being yanked. He gave up a run off two hits and a walk. CC Lee cleaned up and went two more innings not allowing a run and striking out three, Neil Wagner picked up his third save with a scoreless ninth.

The runs came early and all the Aeros would need would come from the bat of Beau Mills, who hit a three-run shot in the first inning. They would add a fourth and final run in the second after loading the bases up on three straight single and scoring via a Tim Fedroff double play ball.

Jared Goedert hit cleanup with Matt McBride getting a day off and he struck out three times. Akron looks to sweep Trenton before coming home for their opener, Scotty Barnes will be on the bump for the Aeros Wednesday.

KINSTON
A little better for Kelvin De La Cruz in his second outing, but still not quite there as the Kinston Indians fall 3-1 in what was looking like a possible chance at history for Wilmington.

Michael Montgomery is the crown jewel of a Kansas City farm system and he showed why, striking out 13 K-Tribers and pitching six perfect innings. It was broken up when Kinston scored their only run of the night. Jordan Henry singled to lead off the inning and end the run at perfection and Nate Recknagel doubled him home to end the shutout bid.

As for De La Cruz, he picked up his second loss of the year as he went five innings, gave up three earned off six hits and two walks. The bright side is he didn't give up the home runs, but it looks like he is still getting adjusted.

Kinston will run Nick Hagadone out in the rubber match against Wilmington. It is a 11AM start time down in North Carolina.

LAKE COUNTY

Boy the Captains sure do love the Midwest League don't they? Lake County is now 6-0 and the last undefeated team in the Midwest after they finished off their second sweep of the season by beating South Bend 7-5. This one wasn't easy though.

Lake County needed three in the top of the ninth to overtake South Bend. Bo Greenwell would plate two to not only tie the game but give the Captains the lead with a double and Greg Folgia would bring him home for some insurance with a single. Greenwell's double came with two outs, CLUTCH.

Cory Burns slammed the door emphatically with two strikeouts in a perfect ninth for his third save. Francisco Jimenez picked up win number two by going two-plus scoreless and giving up just one hit.

Trey Haley showed some encouraging signs. He gave up three runs off nine hits, but he didn't walk anyone. Keeping the walks down is key for him, but you do want to see the hits go down, obviously.

The double by Greenwell only was part of his big night. He went 4-4 on the game, adding another double, another run scored and another RBI. Roberto Perez had two hits and two runs scored, including one in the ninth, and Jeremie Tice knocked in another run. Delvi Cid stole base number four, doubled, and knocked in a run.

Lake County now heads to Lansing for a three game series. Pitching for the Captains today will be Joe Gardner, who is coming off an impressive pro debut where he struck out 11 hitters.
