The Tribe Daily:
WHAT'S THE NEWS
The first of a few new Minor League Happenings is up and IPI covers the debuts of all the new trade pieces. We've got one that happened last night in Lake County that we'll get to. Good news on the Jason Knapp front. He's scheduled to make a August 12th start in Lake County. Can't wait to see him get out there, but I'm sure it will be limited due to the fatigue, his age, and the fact that he's the centerpiece.
It was a good night for the trades though. Nick Hagadone makes his debut, Carrasaco starts his second game, and Jason Donald did some damage.
Ryan Edell is getting the call to Columbus and he will start tonight's game against Buffalo. Zach Jackson is going back into the bullpen.
Mike Gosling is going into the Columbus bullpen as he cleared waivers and accepted the assignment to Triple-A. Winston Abreu did not, and we will talk about that later.
COLUMBUS
The former Indians farm team, Buffalo, came storming back late against the Indians current farm team, Columbus, but our Clips held strong, added runs late, and beat the Bisons.
Bisons... Pfft.. It's Bison!
Big night for the top of the lineup.
Mike Brantley goes 2-4 with three runs scored, a walk, a RBI, and steal number 38. That kid is fast.
Jason Donald hits behind Brantley and he had a real productive night. He had just one hit in 3 AB, but he scored FOUR times and hit a solo home run. How did he score four times? Well he got hit by a pitch twice, he had the HR, and then he'd come around after he reached on an error.
Tony Graffanino had one hit as well, a double, a run scored, and three Rib-Eyes.
But it was the man, Matt LaPorta with a 3-4 night with four big ones. Good work Matthew.
Carlos Carrasco gave up five runs off five hits and two walks, but he struck out five and went seven and two thirds innings to pick up win number 8.
AKRON
It was walk-off joy with the Aeros yesterday as Matt McBride sent the fans home happy with a 2-1 win over Connecticut.
Look familiar? Because yes, it happened yesterday.
A day after Beau Mills singled home the winning run to end the game, Matt McBride doubled home the winning run. What's cool is he doubled to center field where Mike McBryde was. Weirdos.
Jerad Head knocked in the other run, Carlos Santana went 1-2 with a double and a walk.
That guy named Bobby Livingston went 7 innings, gave up one run off five hits. Good work retread.
Steven Wright is now 9-0 with the two scoreless innings of relief.
KINSTON
Kinston's getting themselves some pitching!
The K-Tribe wins again with a 2-0 shutout victory over Salem.
Russ Young started, went 6.1 innings and gave up just two hits to pick up the win. Kyle Landis cleaned up the seventh and Santo Frias pitched two beautiful innings of scoreless ball with just one hit.
The pitching needed just one run, but they got two. Adam Davis gave them one with a solo home run, he also doubled and scored the other run after Lonnie Chisenhall knocked him in. Chiz had a double as well.
LAKE COUNTY
All eyes on Nick Hagadone and his debut for the Caps. They did end up losing 7-5 to Lakewood.
Hagadone went just three innings and gave up one run off three hits, no walks, and five strikeouts. I'm sure they are taking it easy with him in the early going.
Chris Jones gave it up in 4.2 innings, giving up six runs, five earned, off seven hits and one walk.
Offensive support from Delvi Cid, who scored two runs off two hit and stole three, yes three, bases. The Caps as a team stole five, one by Donnie Web (32) and Bo Greenwell.
Webb scored a run, tripled, and knocked in one off two hits and Jeremie Tice knocked in two with a double and two hits on the day.
MAHONING VALLEY
Seven in a row for the Valley!
The Scrappers beat Tri-City to finish off a sweep of the Valley Cats and to get their seventh straight victory.
Jason Kipnis DHed and went 0-4 with 2 K's.
Kyle Smith and Greg Folgia both had two hits, Folgia with a RBI and Smith with a triple and run scored.
Kyle Bellows hit his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot. That was all Mahoning Valley needed.
Clayton Cook, love me some Clayton Cook. 5.1 innings, four hits, one run, two walks, and four strikeouts for his third win.
Nick Kirk went three scoreless, giving up just two hits and a walk and Guido Fonseca picked up save number two.
ARIZONA LEAGUE
Well aside from the Captains, everyone in the system, including the Indians, won their game, including the Arizona League.
Mike Rayl started and went four innings with just one unearned run surrendered off two hits and four strikeouts. Nick Sarianides went two scoreless to pick up his first win and Dale Dickerson picked up his first save.
Argenis Martinez went 3-4 with a RBI and a triple.
