WHAT'S THE NEWS

Honestly... I got nothing... How about that college football yesterday?

COLUMBUS

Starting their final home stand of the year, the Clippers fell to Toledo by one run.

Dontrelle Willis was on the mound for the Mud Hens, he went 6.1 innings and gave up two runs for his first Toledo win. Donnie Webb, Josh Barfield, and Tony Graffanino scored the runs on the night. Graff had two hits and everyone in the lineup aside from Jesus Merchan and Mickey Hall had hits. Stephen Head and Lou Marson had the RBIs.

Ken Ray started and went eight innings. He gave up all four runs. He's 2-10, suckage.

I need to note something that passed me in the boxscore from Friday's game.

Mike Hessman, longtime Tiger organizational player, who always rips it up in Triple-A but can't seem to do it at the majors, played EVERY SINGLE POSITION on the baseball diamond in that game. He even pitched and was the reason they ended up losing. I'm not lying. Look at the box score again.

AKRON

After giving up a run in the top of the tenth, the Aeros walked off with two runs in the 10th to win yet again.

Johnnie Drennen sent the fans home happy with a two-run shot off Erie's Brett Jensen, his 5th dinger for Akron. He also added a triple, two runs and another hit.

Josh Rodriguez continues to swing a hot back since his return. He went 3-4 with two RBI and a double.

Jose Constanzas' race for 50 steals was dampened when he got picked off last night.

EL Pitcher of the Year Jeanmar Gomez went six innings, gave up three runs off seven hits and four walks. He gave up two home runs as well.

Neil Wagner picked up the win and Erik Stiller went two scoreless innings.

KINSTON

It's just about over for the Kinston miracle run. With two games left, the K-Tribe trail both Salem and Winston-Salem by two games after they were shut out by Potomac.

Cord Phelps had two hits, Mark Thompson and Tim Fedroff doubled as well as Phelps, but the offense sputtered.

Bryan Price lost his tenth game after going 6.2 innings giving up five runs, four earned off four hits and one walk.

Lake County closer Steve Smith is now with Kinston and he did not have a good debut. He recorded just one out and walked three hitters trying to relieve Price in the seventh.

LAKE COUNTY

Lake County did their ultimate special. Not just when they lose by a run, but when they score enough runs in the ninth inning to make sure it's a one run loss.

Delvi Cid and John Allman with two hits, Allman tripled and knocked in two runs while Cid scored one. Bo Greenwell, Jeremie Tice, and Roberto Perez knocked in a run each despite only having one hit between them.

TJ McFarland went four innings and gave up three earned, four total, off seven hits and two walks. He did strike out six. Travis Turek gave up just one run in three innings of work.

MAHONING VALLEY

The Valley beat that stupid deer logo and shut them out for their franchise record 49th win yesterday. They'll go for 50 in their season finale today.

The win also clinched home field advantage with the win.

Start with the pitching which was absolutely perfect.

Brett Brach went six scoreless, giving up just three hits and striking out five.

Tyler Sturdevant picked up his third save by going three perfect innings, not a single hit or walk and three strikeouts.

The run support was thanks to Argenis Martinez and Jesus Brito. Casey Frawley, Ben Carlson, and Chen scored the runs. Carlson, Brito, and Jason Kipnis with two hits each.
